Trying to decide on a new overdrive.
I've heard good things about the Klon, Blackstone and Box of Rock.
I've been told that the Klon is made for an amp that is already being driven pretty loud. I play a Route 66, but the volume never really goes above 9:00 (and I usually get asked to turn down).
What do you guys think.
(I play rock/indie stuff - Route 66, G&L ASAT special or Fender Tele).

I've been trying to find the right OD for my Anderson amp for a while now and finally settled on the Box of Rock. It's not great, but everything else I've tried is worse. It's smooth enough, without a ton of gain, and I like the Boost quite a bit (it works as a clean boost, whether or not the "distortron engine" is engaged). That said, while I like it with the Anderson, my Hot Cakes are better with my Maz and my Ghia. They're different beasts than the 66, though.
Really, you need to try any OD you want through your amp, which is, I guess, one strike against the Klon, although, if you can stand the wait, dumping it if you don't like it won't be a problem.

I had a Blackstone when they first came out. I couldn't find a useful musical tone in the thing, no matter how much I switched the switches. It was just super muddy to me, and not good mud either. I sent it back. The Klon is only really useful as a boost. The drive it makes is small and not sweet. Xotic makes some really good different drive pedals and they are readily available so no waiting list. Ultimately it depends on what sound you want. For instance many people really like Fulltone pedals but I don't. Not putting them down, what I'm saying is different strokes for different folks. read thru the effects threads and you'll read a lot of interesting stuff that will help you decide.

Don't rule out the Barber or Menatone pedals. I use both with my ghia and they sound great.

I just got an xotic BB pre-amp and a copper colored RC boost (new) I love the BB, I traded a Zen drive for it. I know the Zen is a great pedal but the BB has that compressed sound with a bit more saturation (gain) than the Zen. They both stack well with my full tone OCD all the gain you could ever want! The OCD is much bigger sounding and is really an open sounding pedal. It is my favorite of the three. But I've only had the xotic pedals for a few weeks. They are all very quiet and have true bipass which is cool. So many pedals so little time (and money) good luck with your search. I've read alot of great things about the Box of Rock.----Chili Cat

Right now my Ghia rig is a Franklin modded SD-1 into a Clark Gainster into an MI Crunch Box, with a tuner and a Barge DB-2 for solo boost (channel 2) or additional grit (channel 2)... The Franklin gives me a little dirt... the Clark a nice cutting blues and country Robben Ford tone at about 2:00 on the gain... and the Crunch Box gives me over the top distortion. The SD-1 stacks well with either of the others for a tad more hair. I keep the Ghia clean and use those three to power up as much as I need to. I can't say enough about the Crunch Box. Very impressive at 2/3s the price of the OCD...

The Crunch Box is great for medium to full saturated sounds. I also have a BB and it's similar but different piece, more refined sound.

I used to own a Rt 66. Great amp. I'd try to BOR. I love mine. It will give that Marshall crunch at any volume. It should be a perfect fit for your RT 66. Here's my demo vids of this pedal:

OCD with the Route 66 is killer IMO.
