Just ponied up for a Barge Concepts BP-1. Dunno when I'm going to get it but I'll post about it when I do.
It's a clone+extra of the Interfax Harmonic Percolator, a funky and rare OD/fuzz unit. They added an extra drive stage and switchable input and output buffers.
I'm hoping for some cool grindy low OD rhythm tones, and maybe some thicker lead tones.

It came in today. Gonna give it some time before I give my impressions.

I got to try it briefly with the Zion...it's got some pretty transparent low/mid OD and boost in it. If you crank the Harmonics (i.e. Input volume) the sound thickens up. If you dime the Harmonics and then hit the extra drive circuit, it becomes this bizzare lo-fi squizzle fuzztone. Back off the H a tad and it's back to OD. These are just initial observations.

Ok, spent more time with it...time to update. Like I said last post, the higher the Harmonics control is the thicker the sound gets. If your sound is really bright (like the Zion), when you hit the bypass switch some of the highs are taken out and there's a tad less of the single coil punch. To me it sounds like my 45 is cranked towards output tube saturation, except less dramatic (and loud). What's intersting is when you kick in the Drive switch, the sound becomes notably brighter and really cuts. Sounds like my clean but with more gain and louder. Besides the EQish changes between settings (i.e. fatter, brighter, etc) there is no tonal coloration to my ears. I tried it with my Les Paul, and that's pretty cool. I spent more time on the Zion though. The thicker tones were great for fatting up my bridge pickup (way to bright and thin, never use it) to get some almost tele spank to it. I also liked that same setting running into my BB pre turning the mid pickup into a faux bridge 'bucker crunch. So to recap: higher Harmonics setting=thicker tone, kind of like tube compression Drive engaged=back to brighter tone (more like amp's sound) BP-1+BB preamp=thick crunch Harmonics dimed+Drive=strange fuzztones I wish I had some means of recording sound clips or a demo of me with the pedal...the demo I listened to from the guys at BC was not only bizzare (it was set for the "fuzztone") but also hilarious because the guy there could NOT play guitar at all. Have a listen: www.bargeconcepts.com/clips/bp/thursday.mp3I warn you that the pedal only sounds like that on ONE setting, else it sounds like an OD. I think this is staying in my rig for my strat. Sounds good to me.

Also forgot to mention it's got really cool double color LEDs that are blue when the pedal is in bypass mode, and red when engaged. Cool.

Jeez that clip is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! At least tune the damn guitar! It sounds like bad day at Guitar Center! I couldn't even listen to it to hear the pedal. What I did notice was it sounds like the pedal uses a blend control between the fuzz and the straight guitar tone. That's good in a compressor like my Guyatone, but not so good in a distortion. It sounds unnatural. If I can work up the courage I'll try to listen to it again but no promises!

The clip really doesn't display the pedal well. I just personally found it amusing.

That clip has to be a joke. What manufacturer in his right mind would put that on this site to demo his product?

If it's the builder playing it it makes me wonder about the pedal. Somebody that can't at least tune can't be trusted to know tone. I'll hand that to Mike Fuller, the guy plays well but I still can't use his pedals. That's really because I run pedals into totally clean amps and he designs them to be run into amps already breaking up. That rounds off the square waves that I hear.
