Well my ancient old Budda Wah seems to have bit the dust here yesterday. Foo! I can't decide if I want to have it repaired or go with a different wah - anyone have any suggestions about what wahs are out there that work great?

Geoffrey Teese Picture Wah for the classic wah sound. I use one, albeit sparingly. He has other models too if you want to control the Q and whatnot, or want say a high gain wah.

Back when I bought my Fulltone, there weren't many other boutique wah pedals around. I think the only other real wah people liked back then was the Budda that just died on you.
I gave away my Dunlop after I got this Fulltone Clyde. I'd replace it with another Fulltone.
If you want to hear the Fulltone wah, check out my "FD2 Diddy" clip on Youtube. If you can suffer through the first couple minutes, you can hear the Fulltone with a box stock TS9 pushed by a FD2 on comp cut (boost mode) starting around 2:40. This clip iis done with a Strat style guitar, and I liked that particular wah tone-- it really cried.

I really like the Mellow Wah from Keeley. Sold my Fulltone Clyde shortly after the MW hit the pedalboard.

FYI www.webervst.com/bns/messages/30292.html Area 51 Wah - This is a modded Dunlop Cry Baby. I was told it was done by Area 51 but I have no proof. The mod is pro looking and clean. The board contains NOS Mullard tropical fish caps and BC109 transistors. True bypass and DC jack also added. The drop in board alone is $140. $110 shipped CONUS. No Affiliation.

Steve:
I've heard some good things about the BYOC wah pedal that is now available. Can give you some variety from all that bootik stuff we always seem to gravitate to. (well at least i'm guilty of it!)

I used my Picture Wah for the first time in ages in practice today, sounded really really good, even with a high gain pedal after it (Crunch Box).

Steve, if you're using any humbucker guitars (I think you do) then it might be worth trying out the Wizard Wah from Teese. It's voiced to work well with hums & singles. I love mine. It was a little pricey but diefinitely worth it. I really like the Clyde as well but it has a bit too much of a sweep for my tastes. I like a smaller sweet spot like the Wiz has.

The sweep was the issue for me with the Fulltone Clyde...too much travel. Not a bad wah in the least though, but not very well suited for "Porno Tracks".

I'm in the Clyde Deluxe camp. Unlike the standard Clyde, it's got a three-position switch that adjusts the sweep range. I haven't had much trouble finding the porn-wah sweet spot, so to speak, but I use it more for growly stuff and finding tonal scream points...
Sounds great with the humbuckers in the PRS, but with the Tele it seems happier with the bridge pickup than the neck.

Today I noticed a problem with my Clyde Deluxe: when I step up and down I hear wha wha sound like a skretch without playin' anything. And when I play the sound isn't pure, I hear some disturb. Could it be dirty? What can I do?

Dirty pot. Get some Deoxit contact cleaner and call it a day. A little goes a long way. I still have a can of my dads old TV Tuner/contact cleaner and it smells like fabric sheets...smells great and has to be at least 20 years old!!

I can't see how too much travel is ever a bad thing. Nothing's forcing you to use the WHOLE range, is there? The wider sweep range is one thing I love about the Clyde. I can do mild to wild or very subtle--- all with just my foot. Horses for courses, I guess.... jmo

I bought a Fulltone Clyde Standard, but traded it in within a week for a Teese Picture Wah. The Clyde was simply to clean and polite for me, where the Picture Wah has the exact type of vintage "growl" that I was hearing in my head.
I love it so much, I'm selling it for another! Geoffrey updated the Picture Wah several months ago to have a more "Fuzz Friendly" buffer in it, to work better with fuzz pedals. So, apparently the wah is the exact same tone, but it plays nicer if you use the wah with fuzz/distortion pedals. (I have my Picture Wah up for sale over on TheGearPage forum right now)

The Clyde Standard has a little gain pot you can adjust if it is too clean for your use. Mike Fuller sets it at a point and then you can adjust if need be. I moved mine ever so slightly just to give it a little gain and hair as I mostly use it for leads.

I tweaked the knob a bit when I owned it, but just didn't get the tone as far as I was hoping. One good thing I'll gladly say about the Clyde: the build quality is awesome! I wish I loved the tone more than I did, because the sweep and overall design is very well thought out by Mike.
