So the music pastor at my church was doing some research into a good amp for recording and weekend services for everyone to use and came up with this. He called me and asked if it would be a good choice. He also picked up the Avatar cab with a Celestion blue. I don't play 'till next week, so I'm supposed to break in the speaker a bit this week. I think I'll suffer through it!

I've heard that an amp and speaker rig isn't PROPERLY broken in until it has been played in both hemispheres of our mother Earth. Something to do with equialibrium in the transformers and the magnets in the speakers and polarity.;D I'll gladly volunteer to do the "Southern hemisphere" breaking in for you!

It takes some of us years to get our gear choices together and your music pastor "does some research" and buys a Ghia?
Amazing. ;D

Just think of this... You'll be doing the Lord's work by playing that Ghia nice and loud for several hours to season the speaker.
Sounds like you've got a worship pastor that is really in step.
My Dr Z's log alot of time in worship service as well. After a big rennovation project for our auditorium, there was a big idea drive toward going to all POD style floorboards for the musicians to reduce overall stage volume. However our worship pastor was very flexible for my amp preferences on the rotation and just ordered some plexiglass shields to wrap around the Dr Z amp.
Congrats and enjoy. Share some recordings if you can once they are completed!

Oh yeh, I'd definately agree with Taz on that one. I heard all the good ones that actually have that special (MOJO) have been sent to Australia to be DOWNUNDERIZED ;D You just ain't gonna get that optimum performance out of the Ghia, or the KT45 until you do that! Better put on my sunglasses as well, like my hero SKYDOG, he is so cool, and has the best technique and............................ Oh by the way SKYDOG, any chance of that KT45 headin my way to be DOWNUNDERIZED my bestus Z' buddy? ;D ;D ;D

Definately didn't realize you were going to sell that KT45. I thought it was a "keeper" for you. I should have played the 28' with a 12, instead of a pair of 2x10 jensen alnico's. It kind of didn't do it for me tonally. The more I think about it the more I wish I should have bought yours. I've got 2 EL84 amps right now and really miss not having a Fender. I'm not a Fender deluxe lover either but heard that the Z28 is a lot tighter and has more clean headroom than those things with a good 12' speaker. Also biased with some JJ's in the power section that have a lot more 6L6' properties would take me closer towards that low powered blackface twin sound that I just really love. I just bought a Eminence Red,White and Blues so I'm really keen to give that a go with either the Z28 or KT45.
Just a question by the way Curt.
How much did you sell your KT45 for incidently?
Those things are unbelievably hard to come by,especially on Ebay whereas every 2nd Z there is either a Jnr or lately a 66'.
I just sold my L.P and was cashed up very b riefly until my fiance' got her clutches on it and paid some bills. COREYBOX's KT45 lasted all of 24hrs in the "For Sale" section. These things might not be all that common and be one of the lesser known of the range but go in the blink of an eye. 2nd hand prices are almost up around new these days.
It's like I said, a true testament to a fantastic tone machine.
Seems as though people are selling them because they don't play out and are too loud. I don't really have to worry about that where I live and my ears are pretty f@#%ed up from a combination of playing loud as a teenager and my old army days.
I turn 38 on June 28th. Lets just say my New Years resolution for 2007 is to buy one by my birthday, get it down under(Australia) and play the freakin' crap out of it ,lay some tracks down and stop G.A.Sing on about the thing.
Incidently Curt, why did you sell? You got 3 EL84 rigs.....................

'Cause I'm stupid and never satisfied The KT 45 is an amazing amp and I certainly hope they come back someday.

I must be an idiot! If I keep talking it up it's sure to just keep on driving up 2nd hand prices, which is not good for me,m since I can't stop G.A.Sing for one. Let's face it, all the Doc amps are fantastic but I think the really special ones are the ones with no master volume. Then there's the ones with no master and an EF86 in the front end. These to me are as good or better than any Fuchs,Bogner,Dumble etc without those price tags. I could easily see Gilmour,Townsend and the likes of younger guys like Noel gallagher and those boys from Jet playing a KT45. Why wouldn't Robben Ford love the Route 66', Joe Walsh already plays an RXES etc etc....... Anyway, excuse my ignorance but who is Evan? Oh by the way SKYDOG, my fiance' really loves the quote you have there from Hendrix. You are on our wavelngth there buddy! +1 karma, even if it ain't there any more..................

Ok cool, I know that this is going to sound funny but I though Evan Dando(Lemonheads) was going to be the next name to use the Z' line. Don't want to diss anyone, just couldn't work out why someone like him who I presume(please except my apology if i am wrong Evan) doesn't really think serious "TONE" is a major issue of there style of music.
I know what you guys are thinking...................."Hey George, what weed you been smokin' man?"
Ok Evan, the next 6L6 thing, thats cool. I was always an big fan of the Pro Reverb and Twin. I wonder where the Doc's heading with Evan then?

Thanks dubble G (or maybe it's G squared? )! I dig that quote. Jen on the forum has it in her sig. too. BTW what did that 45 combo on the 'Bay you were talking about look like?

Post by groovergeorge on Jan 4, 2007 22:21:13 GMT -7
I can't remember what the combo looked like exactly. It was about a year ago. I think it had black tolex with salt n' pepper grill but don't quote me on that one. A combo, although very collectable, is not an option for me. The sheer weight of it for shipping costs to Australia is one reason, but mainly the fact that I'd be concerned about tube rattle noise that annoys me when driving a powerful amp like the 45' that you wouldn't get with a head. If a 45' showed up on the Bay' right now I'd be short of money to buy one as i just spent the dollars on paying some bills but like I said, my resolution is to buy one before my 38th birthday. My maz "invasion" is a good all rounder but I really miss a fuller tube if that be the correct term. I've got no Twin reverb, an amp that I had for a long time and loved so much for those big clean sounds, and a 70's Marshall JMP that I used to rock out on. I'm not sure if the KT is going to be "The one" and it's so hard to judge what an amp is like by listening to soundbytes here and there but the more I listen, read and chat about it the more I think it's the right direction to go. Is there anything that you don't like or is limiting about the KT45' SKYDOG? I can't believe this is a Ghia thread and I'm right off the subject again. Apologies
