Has anyone got any recommendations for that texas blues tone? I'm playing through a route 66 with a tele or hollowbody w/ buckers. Analog non tonesucking effects preferred, of course.

I'm still trying to get Colorado tone Actually my TS808 still gets me where I need to be for my "Texas" tone. Or check out the www.pedalworx.com/tts.html Texas Two Step.

Well, a little unorthodox but here's what I use for sum BluZ, and I do live in Texas Route 66 with SS rec, bass @ 9:00, Treb @ 2:00, G12H, Xotic BB Pre amp gain set low, slightly above unity, smokin' Blues Tone with Strat or Tele.

I get a good Texas tone with my tele or LP Special, Menatone Blue Collar and the Ghia. I would assume it would sound great w/ the EF86 front end of the 66.

A little compression might help. Just a thought. I tried Comp + Sparkle Drive and it sounded pretty sweet.

I get my blues with any amp, no compression ever{ my BB sounds a little compressed for me} and a AC Booster for some extra stuff. run my amp real hot and mix in the AC and bam ........Texas Blues. and it helps to be from Texas. its in the water

Texas Blues? Quite a range there... Are we talkin' Texas as in Albert Collins? Or Texas as in SRV? Or Texas as in Jimmy Vaughan Or Texas as in Freddie King? Or Texas as in Lowell Fulson? Or Texas as in T-Bone Walker? Or Texas as in Lightnin' Hopkins Or Texas as in Anson Funderburgh? Or Texas as in Hash Brown or Bobby Gilmore (very under-rated)? Or Texas as our own illustrious Texas Z players? OR--OR--OR--OR ? I think we may all have our own take on the Texas sound that will differ greatly with each other. In addition to those above, my favorite Texas sound is either Anson or whatever Delbert is doin' at the moment! (nod to Bluezsteel). That kind of greasy roadhouse grind with precision always blows my skirt up. That what our band does...here in the bowels of Philadelphia For me... strat--> Timmy (as a pre-boost)-->TIM--> KOT --> Z-28 or Deluxe Reverb. -OR- Tele--> Keeley Katana Boost--> Stang Ray (for the Albert Collins thing) All speakers are either Texas Heats or Red, White, & Blues.

Thanks for all the replies. When I think of texas I think of SRV. Part of it is that quacky strat tone. I didn't realize it till I started playing a strat through my amps - wow, big difference. It's funny the things you don't think of when you get too focused on something. I've got a strat on the very short list now.
And yeah, there are a lot of other blues players from texas, but SRV is what I think of. I know it's been indicated in other threads that some people avoid the whole srv thing because he's so popular and 'everyone tries to play srv'... In 1969 everyone wanted to be like Neil Armstrong because the dude walked on the moon. After SRV, everyone wanted to play like srv, because the dude walked on the moon.
Anyhow thanks for the info.

SRV had a lot of things contributing to his sound, Big strings a little preamp drive a lot of output tube drive giving limiting and compression strong speakers pushed so hard they were about to blow giving more limiting MASSIVE talent!
