Does anyone have any info / suggestions about a good Fender-style tube reverb unit to buy? Here's where I've been so far: (1) Original Fender - Haven't found any ( yet ) that were in good enough condition. (2) Fender '63 Reissue - Not too bad, but reverb so brassy that it just completely "washes out" after setting of 4 ( though I've heard there are mods that can be done to make it sound better ). Any reliability issues with them? (3) Victoria Reverberato - EXCELLENT! , but at $1595.00, and a substantial wait, maybe not. (4) Uncle Spot - Heard good stuff about his unit, tried to order it ( down payment and all ), but "lost faith" after waiting 19 weeks with no delivery ( wait time posted as 5-8 weeks ) and poor communication ... asked for a refund. (5) Pierson Amps - Noticed on their web-site that they offer a Fender-style reverb in tweed, but haven't been able to find any other info on it. (6) Matamp?? - There is an orange Matamp reverb unit on eBay right now, but don't know anything about them, and couldn't find anything about them on the Matamp web-site. (7) Soldano Surf Box - Heard great things about it, but no longer made and VERY expensive when you can find one ( typically, $2000.00+ on eBay ). Well, that's what I've looked into so far. Any info / suggestions would be much appreciated ... Thanks.

Peavey used to make a rackmount thing that had reverb & tremolo in it, a Valverb. I bet it's nice! Guyatone makes a stand alone tube reverb but I've never heard one. I suspect it's good. I have a very early reissue Fender tube reverb that I think sounds perfect. Doesn't sound brassy to me. Maybe they changed something that affected the sound, I wouldn't be surprised. Matchless made a high end reverb. Myself, I'm curious about the T-Rex pedal.

The T Rex is a very cool pedal. It has a nice chorus effect as well. Nice to be able to shut it off and small!!!
I went thru the same process of wanting a "unit" as well and finally decided to try the trex. Very glad I went the pedal route.

Don't overlook the holy grail from EHX. It does quite a nice job. I'd put it up against the tank in one of my fender amps any day.

I have a Holy Grail also and I think it sounds great. It has a bit of hum but with the band you never hear it. I've had other amps with a digital reverb and for practical reasons I don't see a need for a tank anymore.

Thanks for the suggestions ... looks like I should take a look at the Holy Grail. I'd forgotten about that one, as I was kind of stuck on the traditional Fender-style tube reverb.

The Valvetrain Spring Thing. It's right around $600 and hand built.

i also have Holy Grail and think it sounds good. it is rather hissy, though. i'm thinking about going to Holier Grail since it is said to be much quieter (does anyone know this for sure?). but for the time being i'm putting up with the hiss since i can't hear it once the band starts to play.

Jack Anderson makes one, but he's got a long waiting list. I just got a 20-watt head with a 2x10 cab, pretty much all because of the reverb and tremolo, after a 15-month wait. andersonamps.com/pictures.htmThe reverb unit's in the first row, far right. My amp's the last one, down at the bottom... Brian

Sam ... Thanks for the Valvetrain suggestion. I went to their website ... pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Unless the wait is too long, I think I'll give that one a try.

I saw "15-month wait" and thought not a chance, but the Anderson also looks good. Maybe the long wait is just for the amps? That might be worth a look too. Thanks, everyone.

How about a Kendrick tube reverb? I have a 3 knob tube reverb in a kendrick combo, and it sounds amazing! - Kendrick has stand alone tube reverbs also - I think I saw one on ebay for $450 a while back. I saw one recently at the Boston Guitar Works in Brockton, MA. Maybe they still have it.
Another suggestion would be a Van- Amps reverb. I use one w/ my Ghia combo and it sounds awesome. I was initially skeptical of running reverb before the amp, but the Van Amps Soul Mate sounds real nice - not as nice as the tube reverb, but close.

Hey Mr. Bill, As far as I know, there's no wait I'd give Rick a call. He's a great guy to. The Spring thing really sounds great!! Sam

Maybe the long wait is just for the amps? Sadly, he's got just the one list. I first got on the list before I got my Z. Once I got the Z I figured I'd use my turn to get the Reverb unit, but when my number came up I had to go with an amp. He says if one person on the list got a Reverb he could probably make a few at once, for other folks, too, but nobody gets on the list for a Reverb, so... Brian

I haven't noticed the hiss with the holy grail here but maybe I'm just used to it. It's not like it shows up when you're playing anyhow. For the money, I don't think it can be beat.

The Van Amps Solemate is a spring reverb that costs around $300.00. I love mine with my StingRay combo. Very transparent.

I was at Make 'n Music on Monday, and checked out the T-Rex Roomate. Nice pedal, but just didn't excite me enough to buy it. It's small, versatile ( 4 settings ) and sounds pretty good. However, I thought the reverb sounded a bit "compresssed", and the chorus setting didn't do much for me. Still, I could see that the pedal would be an attractive alternative to the larger stand-alone reverb units. I thought the Reverbamate (?) could only be used with two channel amps, like old Marshalls. I forgot about the Kendrick ... that would be nice. At this point, I'm still leaning toward the Valvetrain. Thanks, all.

Sounds like a good decision. I would like to hear your feedback with Valtrain Reverb unit.

I have a ESB Dynoverb and it is very sweet. I also like Matt H's Soulmate.

Lots of good suggestions ... thanks. The Valvetrain still looks best, to me. Or ... Myles could start a list for people who would like the Dr to make a stand-alone tube reverb unit?

FYI, I spoke to the Doc about a Verb unit a while back and the time/cost to build one would not = to a comfortable retail price. There are enough folks out there making them already like Valvetrain (at a great price), and as we all know the Doc doesn't like to reinvent the wheel.

a good verb for cheap is the Marshall reflector...I'm liking it more than the Holy Grail and the Litle Lanelei i had.
