I have a question for those of you who have rather large pedal boards. I see boards that have two rows of pedals (such as mine). I'm wondering how to handle cable management. My biggest issue is how to flow the signal chain from the last pedal on the bottom left to the first pedal on the top right. Do folks just use a long (4') cable to go from left to right? Does this hamper signal quality? What is the best way to do this??? Thoughts and suggestions are welcome

If you have more than 5 - 6 pedals (even true bypass) the existence of a longer cable through them doesn't change what already altered.
You should need a looper to enable those pedals You don't need (everybody have 2 - 3 pedals engaged very few times), may be channel A for 1st row and ch B for 2nd...

Get some kind of build it yourself cable stuff and build the appropriate length cables. I have a whole bunch of extra different size cables to bypass, place pedals into onboard loops, and whatever. You could also arrange the pedals in a format where the next pedal after the top left pedal is the first one on the BOTTOM left, and then just head back east with your pedals. Keeps everything short, though you may need to to relearn or rethink howyou use your pedals live...

I agree with tjstrat, you have to build your own. I bought cable from Procables n Sound and it made a huge difference for my sound. I used to use Monster Cable and now all I use is Canare cable from them, including there speaker cable which also made a huge improvement in my tone. There is almost zero difference in my tone if I go direct or if I go into my pedal board. George L's are also a good cable too from what I've heard.

Paul
I have a hunch that you'll be using George L's.
Get rid of some pedals - fewer pedals = less cable = minimum tone loss
simple math - HA HA

you can always arrange your pedals so that they are arranged "low-level, high-level, low-level, ....." then you wouldn't have to worry about one long run from left to right. so for 8 pedals, it would be like:
8 6 4 2 -> upper level 7 5 3 1 -> lower level
you'd plug into 1 and run short cables from each pedal, then your final output would be from the pedal 8.
hope this helps.

Mudskipper, that is perfect!! +1 for you!! Thanks! B.T.W. Where in MA are you?
Matt, I've already weeded out the board pretty good. 6 pedals have come off thus far! And yes, I will need George L's, so we should discuss going in on a roll and some connectors.

Mudskipper, that is right but usually I keep in 1st row the ones I use (and switch more) like OD's wha and boost, and they come first also in the chain order. In the 2nd row there ae modulation pedals, such as trem Pha ChFl that come after Connection cable from 1 to 2 row isn't 50 cm longer anyway, so think that it wouldn't change the tone a lot...

I've been digging the new Planet Waves Cable Station stuff. They have a pedal board kit, with a bunch of right angle ends and 10' of cable. I just re-wired my board with it (it used to be a mismatch of Rapco and George L's) and the results are fantastic. I do a two layer thing with a combination of some stuff in a row and then popping up to the top layer and zig zagging back and forth. I buffer the whole thing, so a couple of extra feet of cable makes no difference. Off the subject, but the Planet Wave ends rule. Since they have a Banana clip style spring mechanism on the plug, they make a VERY sturdy connection into each pedal. Their cable is nice, too. Much thicker and more solid than George L and I believe, make a cleaner presentation on the board.

Not bad, we mostly play in Haverhill at the Chit Chat. Can't really get out much with fam and kids and stuff.
