Got my blonde 112 from Humbucker a day early! Tried it at lunch with mixed 1st impressions and now after bringing it home to my studio I have to say although it has great tones and I dig the gain structure and sustain it is too loud. This is coming from a guy who plays another brand 100w tube head in to 2 4x12 cabs, and my Remedy in to 1 or 2 212 cabs and the Monza sounds like 200watts out of a 112 compared to these rigs. I have been saying since I got the Remedy it is 2x the power of my 100w head and I understand why - the efficiency of the circuit as well as being a one channel super efficient design. The BL at 1 is ok, but beyond that kills the mojo of the amp. Also, my wampler pinnacle and ego comp does not sound good with it so it is headed back with a major loss to the checking account via the 10% restocking fee and out of pocket shipping costs. Hoepfully more Z dealers will pop up in Ca. so I can demo lore amps that way. Anyhow, thanks to the folks I pm'd and provided good info regarding the Monza.

bummer on the amp, it is a little loud but it does sound sooooo goooooood Sorry it didn't work out for you, I know when mine came home I had to play around with it for a while to find a good spot for balance between volume and gain without killing the tone with the brake. I've never ran pedals into my Monza though, I've always just used it a a plug in and jam. I love it in my buddies studio, it really likes the mic and translates well to the recorder. Todd

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out, but it happens. While I have gradually expanded what I'd call the Monza's tonal zone, it is still limited. What it does, it does really well, but it won't be everyone's ideal amp. After all, nothing is -- which is why Dr Z makes more than one model, of course.
I agree that the BL seems to choke the Monza more than the BL affects other amps, e.g., my Z-28. Might be a perception effect, might be some circuit interaction.

The real bummer in hindsight is, why have an amp this powerful in a small combo. You HAVE to crank it to get the good tone which means no small venue will tolerate it, and if you find volumes you can use it, it will likely be anemic backing rhythms and such this little thing was never designed for. Speaking with Brian at Humbucker he agreed saying his Maz 18 will never be turned on in his dwelling even with the BL due to it's insanely loud 18wattts. hopefully the Doc will make a compromise between this amount of un suable (in most settings) headroom and the 5 watt bedroom rigs.

Based on the Volume of returned product you may be surprised, by the way I have a full stack with zero attenuation and it does what it is meant to do.

Based on the Volume of returned product you may be surprised....... Wait......are you claiming inside information that shows people are returning their Monzas in droves?!?!?

The one I got was in a pretty thrashed box that had obviously made a trek to at least one other location (confirmed by the humbucker folks). This combined with the fact that there are about 3-4 people who post here And the handful of previous posts regarding similar issues was where I was coming from -no inside info. Just to be clear, I think it's a Killer amp, it just makes no sense to have so much power that you have to kill it with attenuation, or not get the mojo it can dish out at anemic volumes. Actually very bummed it did not do what I was looking for,.. but my Remedy does!
