Hey guys say I was wondering what would be the best 3 pedals to have on my board for a transparent clean boost with just some hair on the notes, a medium type gain and an all out assault not death metal but just a good marshall type tone ......I'm thinking an xotic rc for the clean boost have read alot of good things on here from other players about this pedal and also from what i've read alot of players are leaving this pedal on all the time.......Ah for medium type gain tones i was thinking of a xotic bb preamp, xotic ac , fulltone fulldrive, zendrive, keeley bd2, tim or timmy ? Any others ? And for heavier tones like a hellbilly, keeley modded ts9, keeley rat pedal etc ....Also i would like to get the best combination of the 3 where they work in conjunction with each other if all engaged.....like i heard the xotic lines work all well together .....Any help would be appreciated i'm just trying to finish out my board here and be done with it .....oh i have a maz 18jr w/ reverb.....ok thanks for the help fellas.....

I prefer to use two (acutally one pedal with two channels/stages) for your 3 pedal line up. One for a med. boost, little hair on it and one for higher gain stuff. Never had a need for complete clean boost. I usually work the guitar volume to achieve different shades of dirt/clean. Back on the day it was two tubescreamers, one set cleanish and one higher gain, and both on for over the top.

Hi Hermyinaz, I use a three pedal setup. It is always nice to have only one but depending on the gig you might need a variety of overdrive tones. The three Xotic pedals are great. I originally started with the RC, AC and BB. I had an early AC booster but found it too nasally so I replaced it with a MJM Blues Devil and I have never been happier. I have the pedals going like this (minus other effects) I use GUITAR-MJM BLUES Devil-BB Preamp- RC Booster. The RC booster is the last pedal in my chain. With this setup I can get a straight clean boost for clean solos using the RC, or if I want just an overdrive then I use the Blues Devil, if I want more Marshall crunch I hit the BB. If want more crunch but not more volume I hit the BB with the Blues Devil. If I want the MJM or the BB but louder I hit the RC after. I want total sonic goodness I have all three on and it is a blast! I hear the AC booster has had a reworking and is now more open sounding with added gain so it might be a pedal for me to look into again. You can't go wrong with the RC, AC, BB combination. A lot of pro guys seem to like them too. Here are a few links to some video demos that helped me decide. Hope this helps. Keeley Compressor. Keeley BD2, and Keeley TS9 or Fulldrive. The compressor can be used all the time, or for a clean boost. The Keeley BD2 for light breakup stuff; the Keeley TS9 for heavier breakup, and the BD2 in front of the TS9, both on for thick chunk.
That being said, I'm very interested in the Xotic lineup, mainly because of the EQ setup on the pedals, and will check them out, starting with the AC Booster.

Can't tell, all depends on kind of music you play. IMO for funky rhythm country style and blues NOTHING but R66, few times Keeley comp or Fulltone FatBoost. I think Fulldrive 2 can be useful for nice crunch tones or added to crancked amp for something more. For rock I have an OCD and a D-pro, very different pedals (more highs for the first, more midrange and basses the 2nd, my choice with single coil PU). But maybe there are thousand of nice stomp I'd like ...
At the end I think that an od a booster with a great amp can recover many different styles. You can add a comp.

Call me crazy, but I use a 4 pedal set-up on my main board. First there's a Fat Box boost for that slight kick in the butt tone, second it's a Barber LTD silver edition for the I'm starting to grow some hair tone, third is a 1979 Boss OD-1 for the plexi meets tweed thang and last is a Barber Direct Drive for the go make a sandwich cause she's still sustaining tone. Of course I can always mix and match for all kinds of combinations. I do a lot of session work and live playing in a variety of settings, I have to be able to go from clean to any shade of dirt and I have to keep the stage volume down as low as possible and this is the combination of pedals I found that will allow me to get the sounds I need and keep the volume in check.
As for amps, playing live I use a Maz Jr. 1x12 w/ a blue and a Vox AC30 and in the studio it just depends on what I'm going for.

You're everything but crazy: even DrZ amps made me appreciate guitarcableamponly sound, to have versatility there's need of various pedal. I've got 8 -9 in the chain, by this week engaged through a 4 way handmade looper I'm waiting for. Playing covers and also pop rock stuff I have:
gtr> wha > (comp)or Fd2 > od 1> od2> Boost > Then modulation: trem>Pha> ChFl> delay wanna have less pedals as possible in the chain if not turned on, so > looper 4 way.

Here's my 3 pedal setup for gain that works well for me: Burris Boostier - nice Klon like clean boost for 1/2 the price Barber DD - use it for a low to medium gain (gain at 12:00) - best pedal I've ever owned for around $100 Menatone Blue Collar - use it by itself for leads (gain at 3:00) or stack w/ DD or all 3 for over the top leads. - Very uniquely voiced TS type pedal

Heres what I use and I think it works good. Ghia volume for a little hair, Ac booster for rythym, Compressor with volume booster a little and sustain about 10 for a lead boost. Guit-comp-ac-delay(just love delay cant leave out)-amp. What kinda music are u looking to play?

I'm getting unreal tones from an eternity or timmy into a luxury drive. Oh and then there's the power screamer for heavy OD rhythms and then stacked with the timmy for another lead tone.

Guitar---> Zendrive---> Timmy ---> RC Booster---> Stang Ray
The most useful pedal I own is the Peterson Strobostomp...extremely accurate and fast to use on stage. This is a pedal that truly lives up to it's hype and far exceded all expectations.

Ditto on the SS, stratdev. Unfortunately because of it my ear is more keen thus I notice being out of tune alot more than before! lol
3 pedals....Strobostomp, BB preamp (light to med gain), and mayyybe a wah such as a Picture Wah (I like wahs when they aren't abused).
Reason for just one dirt box: set amp to rhythm crunch, roll back volume for clean, kick in BB for leads or more gainy rhythm.
