I have a vintage Boss CE-2 from 1979. It works fine, but I figure after 27 years (yeow!) the capacitors may have lost their values/tollerances. I'm considering a Allums mod: www.monteallums.com/Product_links.html#CS3Would this be worth doing? Any comments?

I wouldn't mod it, repair yes, mod no. I would find another Chorus to fit the bill.

I thought about purchasing another CE-2...one from Taiwan that's not considered vintage, and mod that.

By "vintage" do you mean it's more than just "old," that somehow it is precious in your eyes? If so, leave it alone. If you regard it as a tool, then upgrade or repair it as you see fit to improve it's utility.

By 'vintage' I mean this seems to be a valuable and sought after version of the pedal. But let's be realistic, when I say valuable, I'm still only talking about twice the price (at best) of a regular taiwanese version)....and I'm not into collectables. (beannie babies, vintage gear...etc)
So for it's value, say under $120, I won't sell it, it's worth more to me sentimental value.
But I do regard it somewhat as a tool. Say 50% tool, 50% sentimental value

The most desirable pedals are the old CE's made in Japan that have the black label. Mine finally gave up and I sent it to Keeley for the mod. I got it back and it sounds fantastic. I would not hesitate sending in another for mods.

I have the CE-2, MIJ black label, unmodded. I like the way it is tonewise. My only qualm is that it isn't true bypass. If I wanted to get one modded I'd buy a second, either the MIJ or Taiwan green label one. The Keeley HiFi mod changes the op amps anyway. I'd set one CE-2 for high speed a-la Leslie and a second for a fat-solo boost. My 2 cents.
