That the 6545, while technically a channel switching amp, doesn't behave like your typical 2 channel amp? I rarely (if ever) find myself switching between the two sides as the tone of each side is so different from the other side.
To me, it's more like 2 amps in one head as the KT side is pretty clean EF86 that wants to be pushed hard, and the SRZ side has the higher gain 12AX7 thing going on, with a great master volume control. It's prolly my fave amp in my arsenal, but I usually just stick with one side in a night of playing, otherwise I'd be tweaking pedals all night.
Forgive me for stating the obvious - just trying to "bump" the 6545 board to get some action since it's been realtively light on posts for quite a while.

I really like mine too! The tones are really different - not an amp that you can play on one side and switch to the other just for a little added something. Don't think this is an amp that will generate much of a dialogue - not enough were made. Kinda like the Delta 88

IMHO, I think of the 6545 as a clean & crunch type amp. I was in a band that did more modern type rock, with clean rhythm parts (KT45) and then kick in some drive (SRZ65) for the chorus. Add an overdrive pedal to either channel for leads. Very versatile! However, lately I have been running the SRZ side with the master full on and using the gain knob as my volume. This really adds a new dimension to this amp. Much more plexi sounding and more strat friendly. Yes its is cleaner, but it sounds fuller to me, more "mojo" if you will. Tone wise it is much closer to the KT45 side. Just my opinion, but yes this amp is sweet!!!

Interesting buckmeister, similar to your approach I like to run the master of the 65 around 3:00 and set the gain to around 11:00 and use an airbrake to tame the beast. For channel switching at gigs I usually selected either side for the type of song being played and hit a pedal for boosting leads and rarely used the two channels for leads or bridges ect. One the other hand, I used my Galaxie for channel switching in and out for leads; ch2 for leads and back to ch1 back to rhythm. I never gave it much thought until now. Interesting observation teleric and it's always good to see post in the 6545 section. I've been using a combo for gigging lately (i'm lazy and need a roadie for load in and out) and let a friend borrow the 6545 to check it out. He wants to own it so bad I think he'd give up one of his kidneys for the 6545 if I asked. It's that good of an amp.

I've always used the master on the 65 side in the traditional manner as a volume control.
I'm gonna have to try cranking it up as my one gripe about the 65 side is that it needs a touch more low end - my "low" knob is always dimed - sounds like cranking the master will do that.

Hummm... my 65 side has a butt load of low end. I usually set the base tone control around 9:00. I'd think that opening up the master will give you more bottom end. It's a mighty mighty powerful amp. I always use an airbrake with the 6545.
