I was really struggling trying to get some decent gain with this amp. I love the clean tones but needed it to get a bit dirtier for the music we play. I've gone through a bunch of pedals, but finally came across two that changed this amp entirely. Both the Fulltone OCD and the Paul Cochran TIM pedal are perfect matches with this head. You can totally keep your tone and nuances of playing while adding as much or little dirt as you need. The amp was always awesome, but these pedals make it possible to play just about anything, and you don't lose any of your guitar tone or playing feel. If you have this amp, try one of the pedals, you won't be disappointed. Cheers!

Haven't tried the TIM, but I definitely agree with you that the Fulltone OCD sounds great.
Also, if you like fuzz, anything with some big low end sounds good through the EZG, like a Brassmaster, Pedalworx Octabooty, Barge Conepts BP-1, etc. Oh yeah, I loved the way a Mid-Fi Electronics Glitch Computer sounded through the EZG. Massive. Ridiculous thump.
As far as distortion or overdrive goes (in addition to the Fulltone OCD) I like the Xotic AC and the Earthquaker Devices Chrysallis. I am anxiously awaiting a Lovepedal Kalamazoo and a Catalinbread WiiO which may end up on my board...I will try to update.
Pedals that didn't work as well with the EZG, in my setup:
Z.Vex Box of Metal- I liked it when playing alone, but in a band it didn't cut Boss BD-2- not terrible with the EZG, but not memorable or versatile

As for pedals that also didn't work for me with this head: RAT pro co, Subdecay Super Nova Drive, MXR Wylde Overdrive. All three color the sound way to much imho.

The Pro Co RAT pedal can be really hit or miss. Not only is the quality control between actual pedals inconsistent (sometimes 1 out of a handful of them will sound "right") but also, the pedal may work with one Fender style amp, but not another.
I will update with any pedal news...the Kalamazoo or the WiiO may be replacing or supplementing some stuff on my board. Time will tell.

Two pedals that I have been playing recently with my EZG are the Lovepedal Amp Eleven and the Wampler Paisley pedal. Both sound great with my teles and strats. I am especially digging the Paisley pedal. Very versatile from clean boost to heavy gain.

I wonder how the Lovepedal Amp Eleven compares to the Kalamazoo (which I just got for Christmas!).
I am really diggin the Kalamazoo. Not as much gain as I anticipated, and a bit darker than some of my other pedals (say the OCD or Chrysallis). But man, that thing sounds like an amp with slight breakup better than just about any pedal I have ever used.

I don't think I've tried a pedal yet that sounds bad through it, unlike other amps I have. So far these have been great;
Stampede SOV-1 and SOV-2 Menatone Red Snapper Xotic BB and AC Wampler Pinnacle 2 (but keep the amp bass low but sounds brilliant) Menatone Blue Collar

The Suhr riot is cool if you want blackface cleans and Marshall crunch

Mine died on me - I sent it back, and they shipped my pedal back very quickly as good as if not new, complete with new packaging. 5 year warranty....awesome.

I mainly use the WAMPLER Brent Mason Hot wired Pedal! IMHO it's one of the best dirtboxes on the planet and loves the EZG... Second best, and also often used, the LOVEPEDAL Kalamazoo!

I think pedals also react to different speaker configurations, probably as much as amps
