I have an SRZ 65 that has been a great amp for me for several years. I have used it and liked it through several convertible cabs that Doc makes. I like the 2x10 and I have used a 1x12 with a G1265. My issue is with the Zbest. I bought it thinking that It would really be a great cab for the SRZ, but I don't really like the tones i'm getting out of it much with that amp. I really like it with other amps, but I want it to be my go-to SRZ cab.
My Zbest is stock with a G12H and a V30. From other experiments I have learned that I really don't care much for the SRZ through an open back configuration with a G12H involved. Have any of you found that the SRZ performs better with a speaker other than the G12H paired with the V30 in a zbest? I'm considering sticking a G1265 in there with the V30. Anyone try that?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I find that Bizarre? I love My Gh30 with a Gold in an Open 2x12 Z Cab, I have never tried the Z Best but I do know I dont like a GH30 Closed, It doesn't offer that Tight Bottom I like. The V 30 once broken is a Killer speaker, The Gold and My original EVM/L's are the best with my SRZ thats for doing the Harder rock High Gain stuff. You may want to try some different speakers, I haven't tried the G65 Would love to get one ;D I have an early 70's G12 -80 Rola Celestion That is AMAZING!!! with any amp I own! Have you ever tried any MOJOTONE Speakers or WGS? They Kick. I have a Mojo V 30 that has tons of Bottom PM me and i'll give ya more details.

Is the Z-Best broken in? All my speakers took hours of use before "breaking in" and sounding right to me. However...
I do like the SRZ-65 through an open-back cabinet holding a pair of Greenbacks. Very rock n roll!
I also like the SRZ-65 through a Marshall 2x12 (1936A) that has 2 75 watt Celestions that are VERY, VERY well broken in.
But it still sounds fine to me through a Z-Best. I am not quite sure what it is you don't like about the Z-Best? Is it to bottom heavy? Is it the directionality? Have you really experimented with EQ settings on the SRZ?

Well, I guess the best way to describe what I don't like about the Zbest with the SRZ is that it sounds harsh to me. I don't notice that quality when I run other amps through it.
I have heard the SRZ through 2 greenbacks in an open back cab and really liked that configuration. I have also tried an open back cab with 2 g12Hs and didn't like it.
I may get a few greenbacks and put together a cab, but I'd really like to get the zbest configuration to work so I get more of the closed back punch.

Yeah, everyone has different ears and different perceptions of sounds. What I may consider "punchy" you may consider a bit strident/harsh or vice versa. It's hard to say.
However, if you liked the open back 2x12 with Greenbacks I would try go with that. It certainly is a great sound. Technically they are only able to handle 50 watts, but mine seem to hold up just fine with the SRZ. This cab seems to help steer the SRZ-65 towards the more "vintage" Marshall type sounds, a la the Bluesbreaker and Plexi. Playing with the Presence and High controls can also contribute a great deal towards smoothing the amp out.
