Well. Here he goes again. If you've been foolish enough to read prior posts of mine, you may have noticed a tendency, a pattern. Every now and then I log in and post for no reason other than to gush a bit of a rave for an amp. And this, of course, on top of so many other posts by so many other members that have raved about the amp from past postings. Some things can't be helped. This one is no different. It is also a bit of a tribute to Benttop Steve way up in the NW corner of the US, a million miles or so from me down in the SE corner of the US, who advised me to acquire this amp, and answered an unending list of inane questions from me all in good cheer. He was, of course, correct. Once again.
So. I've been A-B'ing amps quite a bit over the past 4 days, since being the fortunate recipient of a Z Wreck. Quite an amp. Got it's own thang going. The A-B'ing has been a repetitive comparison of a Remedy, a Stang Ray, the Z Wreck, and the RXES. I am extremely blessed to be a gear addict and to have acquired one each of these fine amps. The comparison has been with each played through a 2-12 cabinet, and using a Voodoo Lab Amp Switcher to seamlessly slip from one amp to the next in a process that I'm sure drives my little woman nearly mad. I push the little buttons on the Switcher a lot. Lastly, and of utmost importance, I run each amp through either a Brake Lite or an Air Brake, except for the RxES, which has the Master Volume mod added, a feature I'd suggest every ES owner consider. It's awesome. Play each amp at about the same volume, not that I measured it with an dB meter. And my fave guitar, a dogged up parts Tele with a '56 neck and back pickup and Lollar front pickup, was the testing unit.
Here's the thing. The Wreck: great amp. The Rem and Ray: great amps. Nobody's questioning that. I'm here to say the RxES: just as great an amp as these!!!!! This ES is a stellar piece of equipment and competes tone wise and nazz wise with the best, and lacks nothing in terms of complexity and versatility when put up against the best in the business. Sparkly chimey highs, tight lows, pleasing mids, sweet nazz. With plenty of room on the tone stack for more or less of each. I run all the tones at about 9:00 most of the time, the ES button on all the time, the volume up at 3:00 - 4:00, the MV at whatever level is sweetly equal to the other amps when braked down to the next-to-last setting (doesn't matter where its set, sounds good at any volume) and get a superbly complex tone that does everything a body could want with any pickup switch selection on the Tele. This is a great amp that can be used for anything from home play to studio play to gigging. Love it. Love 'em all (addict!).
There. I said it. I feel better.
