The ebay auction just ended and I am now the owner of a white Route 66! There weren't any local stores to try one out but from listening to as many clips as I could find, I think I made the right decision. This board was a great help in finding high quality sound clips so thanks a lot!

Yeah! I was sure the price would be driven up but only one other person bid on it. I do have a question for you guys though. I'm planning on using the amp with a 2x12 orange cab with two Celestion G12H (8 ohm) wired in series. I have an 8ohm THD Hotplate and was wondering if this would work with my route 66 and cab? I understand that the two 8ohm speakers wired in series = 16ohms correct? I've tried to figure out if this would work but I've become incredibly confused while searching internet haha

I don't remember Jordan.
Ask your question in the "cab & speakers" section or the "ask the experts" section.

DC here!
It depends on the hot plate.
1) 2 8ohm speaker wired in series = 16ohms.
2) You connect the the hotplate between amp and cabinet right?
3) If so connect the the hotplate to the 8ohm output of the amp
3b) Does the the hotplate have an ohm/impednace selector wired ---- to the input - the end you connect to the amp output. ---- My Weber Minimas has - then just selct the proper impedance.
4) You will not destroy the Route66 with an impedance mismatch --- unless you are in credibly unlucky - or the Hotplate are damaged.
4b) Tube amps are much much more forgiving for impedance mismatch ---- compared to solid state amps. You should in priciple avoid the following scenarios: A) dont run your amp head with NO CAB. B) Dont connect a 2ohm cab to the 16ohm output of the amp. and C) DONT short circuit the amp output.
Running an 16ohm cab into the 8ohm output or an 8ohm cab into the 16ohm output
will only only slightly change the volume and maybe the sound a little.
With all the above said - try to strive for correct impedance matching. Simply to give the amp its correct working situation - what it was designed for.
Cheers: Dixiechicken!

Thanks for the reply DC. The hotplate is connected between amp and cab correct. I have the 8ohm hotplate. Okay so even though the cab is two 8ohm speakers wired in series for 16ohms the 8ohm hotplate I have is the correct one it sounds like?

From the THD website on the hotplate-
Q. Can I still use the Hot Plate if it has a different impedance than my amp? A. ONLY if the impedance of the Hot Plate is EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN that of the amp. However, this will lessen the effectiveness of the Hot Plate’s tone controls.
Unfortunately it wouldn't work at 16ohm...

After spending a full day with the Route 66 I am blown away. The first thing that popped in my head was that this is going to be my bridge pickup amp. So often when I'm playing through other amps I find the tone of my bridge pickup to be harsh or thin. Theres nothing thin about this amp. I love the strong mid range and thumping bass! I now find some posts I read on other sites about it not being able to overdrive shocking. I guess I just have a different definition of crunch than some but this thing cranked is my kind of rock sound. In short, I love the amp and the good Dr. for making it ;D Now I just need to grab a break lite for it.

That's why some people probably don't get the 66 to overdrive- they would need a brake lite! Awesome amp, congrats! I want one too!

DC here!
Congrats jordan8865 on your Route66. Its an awesome amp in all respects. Best amp ever - hands down - I ever played.
The thing about Doc's amps that make them unique is - his own vision of what he whats to acchieve soundwise. + his approach to less is more - keep it a simple as possible to get that special sound.
Cheers: Dixiechicken!
