Title says it all. How do you guys feel about the Route 66 and the Z 4x10 paired together?
Likes, dislikes, etc.

Love it! Superb clarity with more high mids than with my Z-Best. Love both the Z-Best and the Z-410 for different flavors.

I love my Z 4x10 with my MAZ Senior and Junior. Working a trade for a Route 66 and think it will sound good with my 4 x10, but noticed not many guys running that combo.
Thanks for the input. Anyone else?

bobbyray, only thing better than a pair of 10s with a Z amp is multiple 10s ... as a huge fan of the '28 with 10s and 12s run at the same time .... I think a '66 w 410 should be a stellar sound. try it. you might like it. you may want some more of it. seriously, though, I think it should provide you plenny of blossom and thump to your tone .... ;D cheers always, eh Joel

It sounds like a good idea - it could brighten the amp a bit, balancing the overall tone. I would not recommend using the Z 10's for this because they are very mid-range heavy.

DC here! OK I'll chime in - although I have never played my Route66 through a 4x10 cab. But I have always prefered 10:s above 12:s with guitar. But I want at least 2 10" speakers - for moving more air and getting a broader soundscape. To me its a feeling thing - to me most 10" speakers seem to be more percussive respond better to my nuances (marginal though they may be - of my playing. I have the new designed 2x10 cab from Doc - removable backplate. And as opposed to most folks I prefer it closed - rather than open. With the backplate in place - you get a bit more volume - a more balanced "hifi-sh" sound and deeper tighter bass response. As good as my Route sound with the 2x10 cab it would sound even better with the 4x10 - of that I feel very confident. Cheers: Dixiechicken!

Well...My deal fell through so reading all the comments about how good this would be is only painful at this point! LOL!
I seriously see one of the Doc's Marshall flavored amps in my future at some point though.

This thread annoys me too as my Brother in law had a Z 4-10 but one speaker was not working. I kept asking him when he was getting it fixed but he never did and ended up selling to someone else. So I never got to hear my Route 66 into the 4-10 and I had a feeling it would be awesome. Kinda like a bassman on steroids.

This combination is a no brainer. I had a Route 66 and Z 4X 10 probably seven years ago and it was incredible, what a huge sound! Cranked or with a Fuzz (I used a Demeter Fuzzulator) it nailed that early Cream sound. I went a different direction musically (Tele + Stingray) but always said I'd get back into a Route 66. I just picked one up on eBay this weekend and I'll have it Wednesday. I'll be running it through my trusty Roccaforte 1 x 12 open back cab loaded with an old G12H-100, and I can't wait, but I already know a Dr. Z 4x10 is next on my list.

My memory could be doing me a disservice, but if I remember right, the Doc told me years ago that a 4x10 was his fav with the 66.
I played a Route 66 once through a 4x10 cab with Alnico Jensens and it sounded great

I really like the 410 with the Route 66. Last week a friend of mine brought over his 410, it was a bit cleaner, with tons of punch and tight low end. Louder than the 1 gold I usually use, and about the same as my Mesa 212. It had two z 10's and two celestion v10s. Really good, probably my favorite of any cab I've used.

And the previous comment about it nailing the old Cream sound are true. With humbuckers its almost EXACTLY that sound. It just honks, tons of mids, but in a good way.
