Hello.
I have been considering sending my 70s Thomas Organ Crybaby to Area 51 to have the output buffer, fulltone pot, Area 51 inductor and true bypass added. I use a pedal power 2, but I've already got a 9v battery clip power adaptor, so I don't need the 9v jack installed, necessarily. It would be about $130 for all this.
My wah has the undesirable TDK "cube" inductor, not the stack o' dimes, so it's not all that valuable.
OR, I could pony up an extra $100 and get a Wheels of Fire wah or something. I've read that this wah is a custom order only, is this correct? It's not available on the stompin-ground.com website (who for $10 extra adds a pedal cable, Pedal power 2 cable and a pedalboard mounting plate- usually costs $30 I think).
Also, there are no specs for this wah on the Teese website.
I like the idea of having the Q and volume knobs on the outside, and especially that the volume knob is adjusting the blend of clean/wet in the output- VERY cool. Does it boost the signal a bit when engaged (if the volume is set high enough) to not warrant a FoxRox or Area51 buffered output, or is this still a good idea to add to the Wheels of Fire wah.
For $175, I could also see if they could put the Wizard Wah in a grey case (red is out of stock, it seems, and I don't care too much about the color). That would be the best voiced for my PRS McCarty Rosewood, which has humbuckers, but I do use the coil taps often for different tones (they actually sound good through the Z!).
Upgrading my wah for $125 to uber-spec.
Wizard wah (maybe available in black/grey?) for $175
Wheels of Fire wah for $235, but not readily available for order?
Area 51 makes a wah as well that looks really nice, at $310 for options of fulltone pot, output buffer circuit, 5 position range selector, growl control, Q control. It's already got the Area 51 inductor, true bypass and a 9v jack.
What do you think? The wizard wah might be great without the extra controls available, but so might my modded crybaby. Arg... Thoughts?
