I'm looking for a good Gilmour type clean boost for my SRZ-65 - my Keeley BD-2 is cool but it's not doing it for me. Short of tracking down a Chandler Tube Driver, does anyone have any ideas??
Gracias!
Johnny

There's a guy on ebay that makes a clone of the Orange treble booster, which gilmour used for many many years.

If you are going to go the Orange Treble and Bass booster route (which is not a clean boost, so be forewarned), look at BSM pedals. Check them out www.treblebooster.net . I think BSM is THE best for the vintage flavoured treble booster. I own the RM, the Rangemaster clone, which is by many accounts the most accurate tone-wise to the original unit (i.e. A/B-ing it with an original), and I love it. I also have the Fuzzbender, which has both the original spec Tonebender MK I AND Fuzzface, which is also killer (I use the Tonebender side mostly). Pedal Geek carries them, but I would not try to order from them if it's backordered. I ordered the RM from them and after 8 months they still had none in stock, it was terrible. I got mine on eBay. I am curious to try to get either the RM Majestic or the RM Velvet. For the Gilmour sound, listen to the soundclips on PG and you'll reconize them instantly. But, again, this is not a clean boost. I think the best clean boost is the Xotic Effects RC Booster, but that's just me.

If you REALLY want a Gilmore type boost then talk to Pete Cornish or checking out some Cornish pedals, as then you will get the real deal. Be prepared to lighten your wallet in a big way though

Hey Johnny, i agree with Tas, for total accuracy the cornish stuff is probably the way to go. He's been building things for gilmore for a long time. I think most of the cornish pedals feature full time buffers tho, which drives me nuts. But i guess if your goin thru a huge pedal board maybe thats a good thing. It will mess with any fuzzface type pedals tho, they dont like buffers before them, just a good ole high impedence pick up signal. Any way, if your looking for a TRULY clean boost, I just got a lovepedal (mosfet boost). Wow, bone clean volume, with NO grit whatsoever. Big db availible, and while it doesnt add any grit it does add a killer harmonic fatness to the signal, and of course set high will drive the front end of your amp or another O/D. I use it to drive a lovepedal COT50 (blue led), and leave both on and use guitar volume to go from clean-ish, to ripping. With my 66 it is THE best tone i've ever gotten!! Oh yeah its cheap to, I think about 125.00, one knob simple too. They are super light and almost feel cheapy, but Sean makes amazing stuff. a truly gifted builder. ..Good luck, Lou

Hey guys, thanks for the advice... I ended up getting one of those BSM OR boosters.. great pedal. However, unfortuantely I sold it to fund an AD-900 delay. So now for my Gilmour tones I play through the Keeley comp, Burris Boostier (mosfet like the lovepedal) , and AD-900 with the Red Witch Moon Phaser sometimes on. This seems to get me most of the way there. I really would love one of those Cornish pedals... his tone was INCREDIBLE when I saw him here in Chicago last month.

There was a ToneFactor Hellbilly in the Gear Page Emporium today or yesterday for $150. It's like a Germanium/Silicon hybrid fuzz/treble booster, styled after the Fuzz Face and Rangemaster Treble Booster circuits (at either end of the "tone" control's range). I love mine. There are a lot of pedals that he used over the years. I'm also using a ToneFactor Hellbaby boost, Huckleberry Fuzz (Fuzz Face sound w/ Big Muff tone stack) and Squeeze Factor orange squeezer clone. I also find that the AnalogMan CompROSSor Ross compressor clone works really well for his sound, the original Ross was a fancy version of the MXR Dyna-Comp that Gilmour used for a long time. I use a Hotcake Bluesberry, kind of as a boost with the gain set where it wil clean up with light attack and break up when I dig in and some extra presence.
