(at half power, of course!) Anyone here us Alnico's with their Remedy on a regular basis? After what I heard, I'm considering getting a Gold or a Red Fang to throw in my Z Best with the G12H30. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!

Yeah, I've been using a pair of Golds and they sound real nice with the Remedy. In fact I made a direct comparison to the Z-Best and I preferred the Golds in the Convertible cabs (open back). Part of that, I'm sure, is that I prefer open back cabs, but part of it is the tone of the top end. The Golds are just smoother than the V30 in that region. Thinking on this a minute though - my Golds are nicely broken in, and my Z-Best has a lot less time on it. The speakers in the Z-Best may not be fully broken in (which would explain some raspiness). Sure do like the Golds though...

I use my Remedy with one Gold and it sure sounds sweet. I want to ultimately get another convertible cab with another gold. Based on Steve's recommendations. The one Gold is wonderfully BIG. It's the biggest sound I've ever heard from a single 12. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the Doc's cabinet design. I've also played it through 2-12 EVM's in a Music Man reflex horn cab and it sounds great with more depth, but less warm & sweet. I did hook up the Blue in my Maz Jr and the Gold together and that sounded great, but I didn't push it...

I had Golds in my Z Best. I liked with the Maz 18 and Maz 38, but with the Remedy I did not like. Put the stock speakers back in. ;D As always YMMV.

I tried the Gold with the Remedy and didn't care for it. I've also tried the Gold in JMP Marshalls with similar results. IMHO, the Gold sounds best when played loud and clean. In my experience, I prefer alnico speakers for cleans and ceramic speakers for breakup. YMMV

I had been tempted grab a Gold and put it in a Z 1x12 cab I have, but wonder how it's gonna hang once I get heavy with it. I mean a Remedy should be a great classic rock, classic metal, metal, death metal, and punk amp, so the speaker better hang, no?
