Well, I shouldn't have, but I did it. Bought a ES on eBay this weekend. With a master vol mod. Have a Z brake. My biggest worry is: will this amp be too loud in the sweet spot? Hoping it'll be OK for home use using both MV and AB. Your opinions to settle my nerves?
thanks,
jj
shoulda got the jr.?

I'd say that w/ the MV mod, you should be fine. My RXJr gets pretty loud, but it has, in my opinion, the BEST MV of the Z Line. If Z came up w/ the mod, and is offering it on the stock amps, I'm sure it'll be fantastic. Now, if it didn't have that MV mod, it'd be too loud even w/ the Air Brake... Congrats, JJ!

Hey JJ, I just looked at your signature... You're developing quite a stable of Zs. Two or three more Z heads, and a dozen or so more Z cabs, and you'll be giving Steve(benttop) a run for his money! ;D

Yeah, Steve is a Z gear monster! Love that photo of all his amps. That being said, I just ordered from Humbuckers a Z Best and a 1-12 Convertable! NOW I'M DONE, til the ZWreck comes out, then I'm really done! Already beginning to sell off some gear on eBay. In that sick way that GAS has of self rationalizing behavior, I like to think buying all this Z gear is gonna SAVE me money in the long run! Right?

A good friend of ours is thanking you right now. Pretty sure I almost bought that amp before he had the mod done. He's a good guy and your getting a great amp.

Hey asattwanger, cool! Small world, eh? Hope it helps him out. Didn't wanna ask him why he was selling his amp. Doubted it was cause he didn't like it, unless it was just too loud. Looking forward to givin' an ES a whirl after all I've read from the guys on this board. Hoping the master vol and an air brake will tame it enough to use! Seemed like an almost reasonable price with the MV mod.

After I played an RXES I was convinced it was my next Z. I loved it. Then I heard about the MV mod which makes it very gig friendly and was totally sold. But unfortunately that was a couple years ago and i had no money. (Still don't! ;D)
There is a clip of Steve's (Benttop) of the RXES with a gold that I loved. check it out if you can.

I looked at that thing a few times on Ebay. I'm glad I didn't have the money or I'd be divorced. I think the RXES w/ the MV mod would make my RXJr obsolete. Hmmmm...

I'm pretty sure you'll love that RXES, especially with the MV mod. With the preamp wound up all the way to the right, that thing has glorious saturation. It can be a bit bright though - some guys like darker speakers with it. I always liked mine through the Golds which are not exactly dark... The RXES sounds pretty great through just about any speakers as far as I can tell.

Yep, Carrjimi. How do you know him? And do you know why he was selling his amp?
I'm psyched to give the RxES a good going over, there is so much good said about it on this board. If it works out volume wise, it may take the place of my Maz 18NR that seems to give me hearing fatigue real quickly - something about the low midrange that I can't seem to dial out. However, I really love the smooth overdrive of the Maz, and love to fuss around with the cut knob. Has great low end, but I find I'm dialing the lows out all the time trying to ease the load on my ears. And when I switch back to the Remedy, there is no fatigue like that and great lows, and that's where I usually stay, Rockin' the Rem!!!!!!!! Tis the best fun a body can have.

I don't know why he has wanted to sell that amp. He's had it for a good amount of time. I wouldn't worry at all about it. Like I said I almost bought it along time ago and during our talks you could tell he was a straight shooter and a good dude.

Been able to spend some quality time with the RxES now and this is an awesome amp! Tons of tone and smooth distortion when cranked. Could easily be a body's one and only do everything amp, ay least with the master vol and the brake lite. Have the MV at just under half mast and the brake all the way down for around the house - very nice even with so much brake. And Benttop Steve is correct (again) - this amp is very bright! But no problem, I just turn down the treble to about 2 (8-9:00), sounds superb. Look forward to gigging with it. No doubts it'll cover whatever is required.

love this amp
