Interesting experiments this weekend...
Just bought a used Fuchs Lucky 7 and will also receive an AirBrake, probably tomorrow, so I will probably A/B the Fuchs and my Carmen Ghia using the Fuchs full out and the Ghia attenuated. Any thoughts on how to best start out with the attenuator and approach my Ghia's settings? It IS a wedding reception, and things will naturally be a little toned down for a set or two, so is there anything to watch out for with the attenuated Ghia?
I WILL say that the Fuchs at 7 watts through a pair of ceramic 30 watt Webers is a loud mutha. I may not even actually HAVE to mike that up, but my approach to soloing and volume control will probably alter radically...

Here's a heads up from the ghost of wedding's past: soundcheck in an empty room will soulnd nothing like when it's filled with people (maybe you know that, already).
To answer your question, use your Ghia to get the tone you want, then attenuate to harness the volume. Think of it this way: the Ghia is the wine and the Air Brake is the size of the glass you pour in.
