I have a boutique '59 Bassman clone and would like to hook up an Airbrake to it. The amp has a 2 ohm speaker load as I understand it. Can I use an Airbrake without damaging the amp?

YES, the ab has no impedence rating.

YES, the ab has no impedence rating. Curt, I am with you Bro,infact I have two Air Brakes for different amps and they work so well.I don't have to ever worry about different ohm ratings. dock66

I have a Kendrick Airbreak, also liscensed from Trainwreck and it's configured exactly like the Z except a different box. I'm pretty sure it was only recommended for 8 and 16 ohms. I've used it at 4 ohms okay. Just to be on the safe side I would ask Dr Z. He may not have considered a 2 ohm application. I don't know if your clone is equipped the same on the output jacks as an old Bassman. The old Bassmans have 4 RCA jacks on the bottom of the amp (all wired in series) and each speaker has it's own cord with and RCA plug that plugs into the amp. When I use an attenuator with my old Bassmans I made a cord with an RCA plug on one end that plugs into the amp, and a 1/4" plug on the other end to plug into the attenuator. A normal speaker cord then plugs into a little splitter box I made with 4 RCA jacks on it that the speakers then plug into. I use mine with a 2 ohm THD hotplate that I had Andy Marshall change to 2 db per click because 4 db is too much. The Z and the Kendrick are both about 2 db per click.

My other player has a RI Bassman and it is wired like that, with the 4 rca's. Never thought about your way of getting around that Billy, Thanks for that.
I may be able to pull this off for him now.....his still has the ss rec too so I plan to grab it for a tune up soon and get a tube rec and some softer 6L6's in it cause they are LOUD before they give it up stock.
I feel sure I've read the Z ab has no impedence rating, but I defer to Billy's suggestion to drop Doc a line and ask.

I made my old Bassmans a lot more giggable by changeing them both to cathose bias. It was easy on the old ones, I don't know about PCB amps.
