Hi folks I purchased a Dr Z airbrake and I have had problems with both my amps when using the airbrake. I have a Boogie Simulclass and a Fender Deluxe. On the Boogie I had removed the flyback diodes on the outer pair of tubes and after that the amp made a loud repetitious clanking sound. Boogie say's that the diodes are not needed and that the diodes were only used to prevent a problem when no load was plugged into the speaker jack. On the Deluxe amp the two 470 ohm screen resistors burnt into the phenolic and actually raised the traces off the circuit board. (This is a reissue amp.) What am I doing wrong? What can I do to prevent the problem in the future? Any info you can pass along to me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe Perry

Using the Air Brake is supposed to be the same as hooking up to a speaker. I'm sure you are but I have to ask; you still have a speaker hooked up after the A B right? (the A B is not a load by itself)

Hey Billy, oh yeah, I always have the speaker plugged in too. Joe

Does your impedance match on all 3...amp, AB, and cab/speaker?

The Trainwreck liscensed Air Break like Z's and Kendrick's aren't particular about impedance. Any amp run full out for extended periods can develop problems due to heat buildup. It may be just down to that. No one else has posted these problems before, at least as long as I've been reading this forum.

"Joe Perry" doesn't need an Airbreak. He must be playing smaller venues. HA HA!

I've run an airbrake with several Z amps for MANY 4 hour shows with zero troubles. I do know the DRRI's commonly have screen resistor issues, usually causing massive melt downs.
The AB has no impedence rating.

Are you using speaker cables to and from the airbrake? Guitar leads won't cut the mustard. Love your tone on "Love in an Elevator" ;D

Hi folks, thanks for the responses.
I've replaced the 2 screen resistors in my Deluxe with 2 watt resitors instead on the 1 watters that come with it. I think heat is a factor so I'll throw a fan on it too.
On the Boogie I guess I'll just replace the flyback diodes. This will at least get me back to where I was at before the air brake was used.
(By the way, I'm actually the other Joe Perry. There's two of us!)
Cheers

Hi Sonicgator, yeah, I'm just inserting the AB between the amp and speaker using the original speaker cable and a new speaker cable. The amps are both one 12" type combo so there's not much to it. Thanks
