I spent an hour or so tonight using the Air Brake with my Z. Vex Nano Head. I was bit worried that it wouldn't really work, since I noticed that the leaflet says the AB attenuates "down to 1 watt", and the Nano Head is actually a half-watt amp. (Small is beautiful!) I was worried that the AB might have no effect on it. But it worked perfectly; it made it possible to crank the Nano on all settings, with various different guitars, without risking eviction. That's just what I bought it for, so I'm pleased as punch.
Then of course I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I ran the Fender DRRI into it. That wasn't as successful; even on maximum attenuation at the bedroom level, the amp was still plenty loud, and it was after 11, so I didn't dare play with any force. (I think the downstairs neighbours are away for the holidays, but why take chances?) This shouldn't have surprised me; I already know from the Nano that one watt can be very loud in a smallish space. Anyway, the DRRI is my main gigging amp, and I'm assuming the AB will work a lot better with it in that context.
Sadly, the little Nano is my only "head". All my other amps are combos, and only the DRRI has a plug-in speaker. I'd love to try the AB with my Trace Elliott Velocette, which has an amazing cranked sound, but its speaker is attached to the amp and I don't feel like doing any re-wiring (especially since I know I'd screw it up). It is, however, possible to run the Velocette into an extension cab, disabling the internal speaker, and I think I'll try doing that with the AB.
