Is the Remedy kind of like a middle ground between the Maz 38 and EXG-50? I have a Maz 38, which is a tad bright and compressed. Also, have (and selling) an EZG-50. Too heavy, loud, more low end than I need. Trying to find the Z compromise between the two.

I'd say maybe your looking for a Z-28 possibly. It is Darker sounding than the maz but will still get you great cleans. The Remedy also sounds great clean and when you crank it you get that growling marshall plexi sound. Make no mistake about it though the remedy is loud a brakelight is almost a must if you want to get good distorted tones without damaging your hearing. The Remedy has more marshall like cleans in it but thats the kind of cleans I dig so the Remedy is the perfect amp for me. The Remedy also has that marshall dirt sound that well just sounds like it came right out of the 70's. What kind of sound you going for? What style of music do you typically play? Hope that helped a little

I agree the Maz Jr or Sr can be a bit too bright... As for the Remedy being middle ground the Maz is a mix of Vox and Fender to me. The EZG is from what I have heard all Fender and big and loud...
The Remedy is supposed to be around the Plexi camp but it has 6V6 like a Fender so to me its the best cross of both..
Can't wait to get mine.. The cleans are awesome to me no piercing highs unless the treble is turned up alot. Unlike the Maz lol .... I tried it out with a Z-best and seemed to have a lot of bottom end more so than my Maz.... I liked an open back with it for me.. Fits my style and the sound I am after with an open back..
It has to be LOUD get the Plexi sound not as loud as a old plexi but still loud..

Countrybilly, how do you define "Marshall cleans"? I think the Z-28, at 22W will not be clean enough for me. I thinking something in the 25-40W range. Maybe Galaxie? I'm also assuming that I don't want EL-84, thinking that the Maz tone is typical of EL84s. However, how would some of the other Z EL-84 offerings differ tonally from the Maz 38? Prescription ES vs. Maz?

Prescription ES vs. Maz? Well when I define Marshall cleans as something on the side of Allman Bros clean ala Jessica, Elizabeth Reed, Mellisa.. Maybe some Skynyrd (they used a lot of Fender, Marshall, and Peavey amps on all the records back in the day). Those just pop into my head right now I guess.. I had my doubts when I first tried the Maz Jr. If I run the Master wide open and then bring the volume up to a good volume for the venue it stays pretty clean till its freakin loud to me.. I am not a super loud guitar player so loud for you and I might be different.. I am checking into the Galxie as well.. I picked my Maz over the Prescription ES cause the amp I was used to using was very dark and kinda muddy, so the treble from the Maz EL84's was refreshing at the time... Now I am in a battle of love hate with its high end... The ES was an awesome amp and I have kicked myself a few times on it.. A ES with a Z best was WOW!!! What is the kind of clean you are going for? What styles do you play? I have plaed some other EL84 amps and the Docs stuff with them is the best I have heard.. Vox, Savage, Mesa, they all sound thin and kinda sterile..

What kind of music are you playing? What kind of guitar do you use? Are you looking for really clean or clean with a little hair on it? What size venues are you playing bars and small clubs i assume? FYI I had a maz as well thought it was too bright and am in love with the remedy. Your options in my opinion:
REmedy: Great amp. Loud amp if you want 70's rock tones @ club volume your going to need a brake light. This amp also has a very nice clean sound. Like previously stated it has more of a marshally clean tone. I agree with Country billy the Allman bros are a good reference point. A good country reference would be Brad Paisley he has used the pretty extensivley in the last few years although he now uses the Zwreck. I personally describe the "marshally" clean sound as a little more midrangey and darker sounding than a Fender clean to my ears at least (not as sparkly and jangly as a fender clean). I personally love this clean sound. This amp is also capable of beeing set up for 70's hard rock (Loud volumes) and then you can also still get great clean sounds by rolling the back the volume on your guitar. I sold my maz because it was to bright to my ears and ended up buying a remedy and I couldn't be happier.
Z-28 : This choice will give you more fender like cleans. Think Fender Deluxe. This amp should have plenty of clean headroom to play any bar. The clean on the Z-28 will be slightly darker than the maz so this could be your ticket. It won't be that crystal clean like a very high wattage amp but still clean. I have a remedy but this will be my next Z. This amp when cranked up the 3-3-3 setting talked about on this board will also give you marshall like crunch.
Galaxy : Fender Tweed like cleans. If your going for fender tweed cleans (think tweed deluxe and Bassman like amp) this is prob the ticket. If the EZG was too loud for you I have a strong feeling the galaxy will be as well. There is not much difference between 40watts and 50 watts.
A lot of it depends on what your going for. What kind of music do you play? what kind of tones are you looking for? The docs amps are all very versatile but they eac have their own charachteristics. I hope I was able to help a little bit.
