DC here! The other night I went to the rehearsal studio & recorded 6 soundclips with my three different cables. 1) ProCo-Lifeline, 2)PCNS Canare, 3) HG-Lyric. I recorded two clips with each cable, one simple boogie riff - and one Substitute-riff - that old early hit with The Who. My reasoning being to highlight different parts of the soundspektrum of my guitar. All clips were recorded with my Warmoth Telecaster using the bridge pickup - volume and tone dimed. My telecaster is all mahogany - neck and body - ebony fingerboard - the pups:s are the Seymour Duncan vintage stacks. The tubes complement in my Route66 was: 1) NOS Tesla EF806, 2) Sovtek 12AX7 LPS, 3) Shuguang KT66, 4) NOS JAN Phillips 5U4GB. Amp is biased at around 33-35 milliamps idle current. In the picture below you can see the settings on the Route66. Clips were recorded with a very good swedish handmade condensermikrophone CM3. Fed into my Motu MK-II 828 firewire interface - using 44KHz/16bit resolution. The mike was positioned about two inches from one og the 10" speakers - the cab is run with the backplate in place. Below comes the sound-clips. They are *.aif - (32bit floating) format. Except for this conversion done in Digital Performer 7.12 - the files are not doctored in any way. mbsb.psy.umu.se/clips/sladdar/HG-Lyric-Boogie.aifmbsb.psy.umu.se/clips/sladdar/PCNS-Canare-Boogie.aifmbsb.psy.umu.se/clips/sladdar/LifeLine-Boogie.aifmbsb.psy.umu.se/clips/sladdar/HG-Lyric-Substitute.aifmbsb.psy.umu.se/clips/sladdar/PCNS-Canare-Substitute.aifmbsb.psy.umu.se/clips/sladdar/LifeLine-Substitute.aifThe clips are 4.4Mb and 3Mb each - the Substitute-clip is the smaller one. As always you'll have to excuse my playing - Cheers: Dixiechicken

I can hear a bit more high end in the HG Lyric boogie clip but all the other ones sound pretty well the same to me.

I don't allow Quicktime on my main machine - it acts like a virus and takes over stuff without permission and won't give it up. I don't let software companies decide for me what is the best way to administer my PC. I do have to live with Quicktime on my studio PC however, because Avid requires it for Pro Tools. I guess they are not clever enough to make their own tools. I'll give a listen on that machine.

DC here! Hehe I know the feeling "benttop" - however I usually deny QuickTime to take over file-suffixes - when it very politely asks me. ( at my work we use Mediaplayer for streaming media stuff - and we have to juggle these settings when using Expression Encoder and downloading asf-files from Sharepoint - long story)You can always set standard programs in in the Control panel. You can decide wich suffixes programs shall look for. Cheers: Dixiechicken!

I'd sure like to know what your personal opinion of the Lyric cable. Thats what I'm using from pedal board to zverb and zverb to amp. I use a Forte from guitar to pedal board.

DC here! Hey "golfnut" - The HG Lyric is fantastic cable soundwise. My personal impression just playing and listening to my three cables is. 1) Proco Lifeline - nice mellow tone with middle registers - suitable for guitar. Slight muddiness but in a pleasing way. Good for Telecasters to mellow down a bit. 2) PCNS Canare GS-6 - very open and transparent sound crisp attack doesnt taper off in the higher registers for guitar. Should work well with humbuckers. 3) HG Lyric - very open and transparent like the Canare - but goes deeper in the bass - boogie rock riffs sound very tight and focused. Only draw back is the stiffness of the cable. To my amateur ears the HG Lyric is hands down the best cable - i like it. I was surprised at the rather noticeable differences. All three will work well with guitar I havent paid much attention to shielding, handling noise and such stuff yet - Cheers: Dixiechicken!

Which is why I use the Forte for my guitar cable. According to Tony at E.A. the forte is very very close to the HG Lyric, except much more flexible. I had ordered all HG Lyric and was ok except for my guitar cable. So Tony sent me a Forte to try and thats what I've stayed with.
