I had purchased a used 6545 on Ebay a little while ago and when I got it and tried it out I thought something didn't sound right. So I messed with tubes, but it still sounded less than what it should. I played a Zvex Fuzz Factory through it and killed something...horrible buzz.
Spoke to Brent at Dr. Z and he said to send it in. I sent it and there apparently was a tone modification to the 65 side and some bad tubes. (I guess that will happen buying used). They swapped the tube rectifier for a solid state and brought everything to current specs. They changed the jewel for some reason, I think it's green now (was blue before). All I know is it sounds great although I think it will sound better if I run it through a ceramic speaker. The Weber Blue Dog I use now has a little too much compression for my taste with this amp.
Thanks to Dr. Z, Brent, and gang for superior service and communication.

Welcome to the 6545 family!
Theres a rumor that the Doc puts green jewels on amps that he thinks stand apart from the crowd. I think there's a thread about it in the ghia section?

Oh Man, mine has a dark blue jewel and looks stunning in a dark club but I'm not sure it goes to 11? It's got enough umph to peel the face off of the folks in front. ;D

I heard the amps with the dark blue jewels could do that. That's the blue-dot from the ol' hot rod days - designates which amps will melt your face off. ;D

I'm thinking a green jewel would look pretty cool on this amp.

Ghias get green jewels, everything else gets a blue jewel except the limited edition SRZ which gets a red jewel. There are 2 different shades of blue though, the previous bag was darker than the current bag. Of course anyone could just order another color and change it, but thats they way they come out of the shop.

Well Dr. Z said a long time ago he got a bunch of NOS Hammond tube sets and he put green jewels in the ghias that had this tube set in order to identify them if there was a problem. Otherwise he would just put whatever color he had.
