My 6545 gets pretty hot. I was wondering if you guys get a lot of heat coing out the top of your 6545s. Ever since I had it biased up it has been cooking to the point I can smell the heated tolex. It isn't burning the tolex just kinda makes it smell like getting into a car with pleather seats on a hot day.
Is this normal?

When I owned a 6545 I biased it around 34mA or so. I never experienced what you are describing with it. There is a certain odor that all of the Z amps that I own had when new. I assume it was the tolex glue. Over a few weeks the odor always goes away though.

I run my 6545 through a Zbest cab and it does get hot. I think they are supposed to run a lil hot and I used to get the odd odor as well but it went away. I think as long as your not blowing fuses it should be fine. The only time I've blown a fuse was when my rectifier tube died.
The rectifier tube adds quite a bit of heat and the ultralinear configuration makes the power tubes act more like triodes and may run them a lil hotter.
I'm thinking of installing a fan and running it off the accessory plug on the back of the amp to help dissipate the heat.
