Moved into a 1 bedroom apartment and I can't seem get my a decent sound out of my 6545/Zbest set up at a reasonable apartment levels without making a lynch mob out of the rest of the building. Would the Dr's airbrake still give me a good sound through the Zbest or should I buy a smaller cab like the 210 or 112 with an airbrake?

The Air brake is the only way to tame it. It's not the same but you have no choice.

That's a powerful amp into a powerful cab, I'm sorry to say but I don't think the airbrake will get you down to a reasonable "one bedroom apartment, don't bother the neighbors" type volume. I had my Route 66/ZBest/airbrake going today at my house. Route 66 loud with the airbrake on 4 and I'm sure that would have been too loud for an apartment situation. But the only way to know is to try out.

Tubes.... It is the nature of the beast. To sound good you gotta push them a little and let them move some air.

With the Air Brake he'd have to use the bedroom setting.

Yep, or just run it very low volume and use an overdrive pedal. Something in me just cringes at the thought of such fine amps being attenuated to "bedroom level". But, ya gotta do what cha gotta do. My lady thinks the mini is painfully loud! ;D Although cranked up, I'd say even that is too loud in an apartment. Maybe just short bursts of noise as opposed to long loud sessions will keep the neighbors at bay. Or find a cheap space where you can let it wail! Good luck with it. Great amp.

Excellent! Nice when you get something that does what you need! I'm starting to feel those all too familiar GAS labour pains for a 6545. ;D
