I'm gonna go to practice now and play my pawn shop special Fender Musicmaster Bass amp that I modded and slapped a Webber into. Not a bad amp, not a bad sound, not great either, but it will be 1 of 2 practices I'll do before the Z-28 comes to town.
HA!!! Love it!!!!

I won't be waiting.
I'm gonna fire this bad boy up as soon as I take it out of the box and make sure it works and off to jam. I really don't care about how it sounds by it's self, because my modded Musicmaster Bass amp sounds not very good by it's self, but when you put it with the bass, drums and second guitar all of a sudden that tone of 12 watts cuts the mix.
This Z-28 comming on Tuesday will have to live up to it $1250 price tag. I'm sure it will, but I will hold it by it balls and squeeze and find out within the first couple of hours.
Not saying I'll cover the all of it's tones and textures, but it will be cranked and pushed every way I can think of from the get go.
Will Ray once told me about amp that Jerry Donahue brought to a Hellecaster's practice. Storey goes he {Jerry} brought the amp in and started playing it. Everyone got their chance to play it and everyone liked the tones it made and BS'ed about how good it was. Will and John strapped on their guitars and plugged into thier amps {Rivera & Matchless}. The three of them started playing and Jerry was gone. He could not be heard. He was lost in the mix and after much adjusting Jerry never found his way through the mix. Will told me that he's never seen the amp again.
Why would Will Ray tell me this? I posted and asked questions about the Fender Vibro-King® Custom.
My point with all of this is. Sometimes it's the tone it makes verse all the different ones it makes that really make the difference. I would never choose the sound the MMB makes by it's self, but in a band it gets the job done.
By the way thanks alot for the Congratulations!! I'm super stoked.

Yeah, I didn't end up with the one our friendly member was offering. He had alot of exrtra stuff for it. The money he wanted was well worth the extra stuff, but I really wanted the warranty.
Let me know how the Maz18 sits and blends with the Z-28 tone. That or a Ghia is the idea down the road.

Somewhere down the road, save a few pennies here and there and toss in one of those NOS Mullard EF86's. It turned a great amp into an amazing amp for me...

UnclePat, you know alot of people have told me install NOS this and that in all of my amp I have owned. No offense of course, but I don't know. I have always looked for the best stuff that I can get 3 or 4 of that will match each other seamlessly when the time comes. Guessing 3 EF86's will last a long time and I;ll have the same tone for that amount of time. Maybe forever.
But thanks for the advise, DAVE

No offense taken at all. I wouldn't have even mentioned it if I hadn't had a highly-touted Dario Miniwatt go microphonic in a VERY short time. About that same time, Myles had posted that Mike at KCA was running a dirt cheap price on those NOS Mullards, so I jumped on it. I'm usually reluctant to share "tone secrets" but this was such a good one for the Z-28 I just had to spill the beans.

Now now Uncle Pat. No secrets here...right? Besides any good guitar player is going to sound different in any given amp. Most of the tone is in the touch. Thanks! Pete

Personaly I'm glad you shared. This site seams to run alittle slow on posts and I enjoy reading when I take breaks. If I could find NOS tubes that I like and could get "X" amount that were made in the same batch then I might jump on them.
DR.Z is in the same boat as he stated with his caps and other parts. This was not the only factor that pushed me inhis direction, but the idea's that he uses are clearly of the right stuff.
I just happen to have a cream cab, so I bought a cream head. I really wanted a red head and cab. At the same time I didn't want to waite to hear the tone. So, either I sell this one oneday and get the red set up or just buy a red set up and run them different.
I'll share my tone secret. G&L guitars are better than Fender guitars. Funny thing is I have never owned a Fender guitar. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I had to buy a Fender cable tonight as I misplaced my other cables, the store only offered Monster, Fender V.Voltage, and Super Cheapo cables. This was the 1st new Fender product I have ever bought.
