Hello! I'm joining the Ghia ranks having just popped for a gently used one on the 'net.
But I keep reading differing info on suggested rectifiers. The one on its way to me (a 2001 2x10) has a 5AR4 in it. Should I put in a 5Y3 as the current tube specs call for, or were the specs different in the past?
Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Thanks---I actually have a couple of GE 5y3's here in the spares box, so I'm ready when the CG arrives . . .

I think it sounds best with the 5Y3 as the Dr. ordered... It takes on a harder edge w/ a 5AR4. Try it both ways... you might like it.
The 5AR4 will definitely roast your output tubes more quickly.

Yes, Peach is right on with this. I've aslo seen Myles post the same sentiments somewhere on this identical question.

5Y3 is the only way I ever go on the Carmen Ghia.

The Ghia is in the house --- installed the 5y3, a new ecc83s, took a precautionary look inside the chasis, and then fired t up. Shazam! She sounds great. Now I know what everyone means when they say it's "articulate." There is such great balance among notes---I'm used to more mush, I guess. I really can hear my own bum notes. ;-)
