I read on Fat Sound Guitars website that you can order a 1x12 z28 combo with either the Heritage greenback or a C Blue (apparently this is no longer the case - now comes w/ the 25watt greenback). Will a blue survive a full beating by the 22 watts of the Z28?
I just purchased a 1x12 combo, which should arrive on Friday! I chose the 1x12 because I already have several celestions I can pop into it (V30, Blue, Heritage greenback, 25 watt Greenback, and the g12h). I'm excited to try all these speakers out (and they're all already broken in) in the z28, but I am worried about blowing out the C blue. Thoughts?

The 28 is a pretty stout amp for 22 watts. I might be a little hesitant to run a single Blue with it.

I agree, but burried deep in the sounds section is a post from Zane of his Z/28 head > 2 x Blues with an R8 Lester.....VERY cool.

Sounds like no Blue - a bit of bummer but I rather not blow a $200 speaker!

Can you get a Gold in it?

The 28 is a conservatively rated 22 watts (as most Z's are conservatively rated). If you're wanting the sound of an alnico Blue, look at a Weber 30-50 watt Alnico Blue. The 50 watter is a bit darker than the 30.

The Gold would probably work well too. I'm sure the Doc would put one in there for you.

I'm actually planning to try all my celestions in it, including both variations of current greenbacks. I was just surprised to hear that Dr Z used to ship z28's with a C Blue in them. I know people put the C BLue in the 18 & 20 watt CG and MAZ Jr., but before I risked my C blue I just wanted to make sure it was safe. But sounds like it might be a real risk. But I definitely plan to give the Greenbacks and the V30 a thorough try-out.

RedFang, great alternative to the Blue. Can handle the amp no problem powerwise.
