Hey guys!!
Been away for awhile. I sold my Maz Sr awhile back...never bonded with it...I think it was due to a combination of lack of really clean cleans and no reverb.
I'm about to go on a big world tour with a fairly large act and am shopping for an amp. I wanted to give Z another try...
How are the cleans? I need really nice, blackface-esque cleans at high volumes. I'll be competing with a Mesa Lone Star 2x12 100 watter on stage. He doesn't play super loud, but it'll put out quite a bit of sound and I need to keep up. I could just get a Lone Star and know that we're in the same space, but I think I can do better...
Also, can this amp rock? Like if I put a fuzz or rat in front of it will keep up?
I'm hoping to try one out in person, but thought I'd look for opinions for the guys that know best!!
Thanks!
Mike

Cleans- no question. Beautiful, "Fender-meets-Hiwatt cleans" for days.
Can it rock? I would say that is where the EZG-50 really gets interesting to me! With or without a fuzz/distortion/boost pedal, the EZG-50 can get some seriously mean tones going out of it! I like turning the Pre and Post almost all the way up- watch out though!
The amp is picky about speakers (to my ears at least) and I would recommend a 4x12, 2x12 or 4x10 cabinet. Dr. Z Z-Best is particularly nice, but many other cabs by many manufacturer's could fit the bill.
Best of luck!

This amp is amazing!!! Awesome clean tones outta the EZG50. All of my stomp boxes never sounded better. Can this amp rock? Oh..yeah!!! I haven't played my other amps since this one arrived.

Interesting...for various reasons (mostly stage aesthetic and touring issues) I'd want a combo...1x12? 2x12? What can I get? Thanks guys!!!

I know Dr. Z is making the 1x12 combo with a G12-65, which is pretty good sounding. You would be even better served (in my opinion) by a 2x12 combo, although I am not sure if Dr. Z is selling them as 2x12 combos...worth an inquiry on your part though.

Looks like they only do 1x12 and 2x10. I may opt or the 2x10. Anyone know the dimensions of those cabs? Are the 1x12 and 2x10 the same size?

I believe so...you might have to email Brent to double check.
I would lean towards a 2x10...the multi-speaker configuration just seems better to me as I once again compare side by side a 1x12 and a 2x12. No doubt that will be one heavy combo though.
