I am currently runing my Z-28 head thru the good Dr's open back 2-12 with Greenbacks..but I'm not really digging it thru this setup...kinda lifeless. Anybody got some speaker recommendations to really bring out the brownface in the Z-28? I'm leaning towards Weber 12A125's..but I am very open to suggestions.

Try the new 2x10 cab - open or closed. I got no idea how close or not it is to the Brown F-nder sound .... but it sure rocks ;D cheers, eh Joel p.s. sending you some K for being a fan of the '28

well...truth be told...I had two Z 2-10 cabs ..sold one to buy the 2-12..and yes the 2-10 does rock..I just also wanted a 2-12..you know how that is. I am thinking about Blues for the 2-12 (to match up with a StangRay) but I don't think the Z-28 and Blues are a good match...but I am usually wrong.

Blues are pretty cool with the Z 28 as is the red fang. They bring out the upper mids and give a really bright british feel. I have tried the 12A125 with it too, and that is more the typical Fender sound, more scooping of the mids. Both are very nice, but if you weren't very keen on the greenback, I'd go with 12A125.

I would give the Fang a shot, I have one in my 28 and I like the way it voices the amp. with the Fang the 28 has its own thing going on.. I must confess I do sometimes run it thru a Avatar BluesBreaker Cab for a 3-12 set up, now thats a killer sound. If you want a really loud projected sound try a Tonker! I have one in my 38 they have a distinct sound as well and would add some percieved clean headroom if that were an issue.

Anybody tried a pair of Golds or the Blue Dog/Silver Bell config thru Doc's open back 2-12? I just need more "zing" than the Greenbacks are giving me.

Just a footnote, the Fang has really broken in after about 20hours playing time. It really does compliment this amp. I know this sounds a bit nuts, but when I run my 28 with the Avatar cab with a vin 30 and G12H those along with the Fang come up with a sound that is just incredible. I like the Fang on its own, but when paired with the other two it goes to a new level. Well worth the $$ , course I have always been partial to Eminence speakers, I have had great luck and sound with them for years.
