After several months of trying to convert my Remedy to a combo (2x12 and 1x12), I finally decided none of the speakers I own sound as good in a combo cab as they do in a closed back cab. That message was driven home last night at practice when I plugged the Remedy into our lead players closed back 1x12. I was struggling to find the tone I wanted, and that ended with his closed back cab. The "Inverted Remedy" is finally retired. Somehow I should have known.....Doc knows best! Here's one last look at the dream of a tone deaf knucklehead!

That's too bad! I like the idea and was playing around with trying it myself- you think the difference was open vs. closed back cabs?

I think it was, and is based completely on a handful of Eminence speakers I have around the house. I wish I had a Gold or a G12-65 to try, but the local dealer didn't have either one. They did have a G12T-75, but I think that usually is sold in a closed back cab, so I didn't try it.
It's not that the combo sounded bad. It didn't, but I seemed to struggle in a band situation to get enough bite out of it. At home by myself it was outstanding, but last nights practice was a real eye opener.

Yeah, the Remedy definitely seems like a head & cab sort of amp.

I am a 'combo kind of guy' and I really liked it when I saw your conversion from head to combo, but,as it's been said, 'trust your ears'... So now I keep gassin' for a red Remedy head and matching cab...!!! Tons of tone.

I think with the right speaker it'd be outstanding. I really wanted to try a G12-65 since it got great reviews with an open back from guys on this forum, but I couldn't find one locally. If I happen to run across one I might give it another try. Until then, I'm a head and cab guy!

After I put the chassis back in the head cab, I decided to try a few more speakers in my 1x12 convertible cab. My local dealer is real big on Greenbacks and V30's, but not much else in the Celestion line. He did have an Eminence Man-O-War, which is their equivalent to a Celestion G12T-75. I took it home figuring it'd be a good closed back speaker.
The speaker sounded pretty good in a closed back cab, but I decided to try it with the center section of the back removed. Sounded better - more open with a tad more highs. I left it like that for a few days and tonight I decided to try it in the combo cab. Great cleans, and solid OD with good clarity. I'm pumped. The Remedy combo is alive and well!
