I have 2 Z-28 combos that I run in stereo, a 1x12 and a 2x10. I've been trying out a handful of speakers in both, & I'm wondering if you can run a 16ohm speaker in the 1x12, as well as 2 8ohm 10" speakers in parallel for a 4ohm load in the 2x10? I ask as I want to try lots of different speakers for the best match, & I'm curious how the impedance mismatch might affect tone, and if it's safe for the amps.
Maybe on the 2x10 it would be better to run each 16ohm speaker into the separate speaker outs?
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!! Cobra

Caution...only use 1 speaker output! I wouldnt run the 16ohm with the 2/10's if they are already running at 4 ohms...parallel that would be less than 4 and probably not safe.

My 2x10 is currently running two 16ohm speakers in parallel for an 8ohm load, the stock configuration. I'm curious about taking two 8ohm speakers & running them in parallel so the amp would see 4ohms. On the 1x12, I'm wondering about running a single 16ohm speaker.

Ok...sorry, I misinterpreted your original post. My Z28 has a 4ohm and an 8ohm output...I think they all do. When you use 2 8ohm in parallel, you are right its a 4ohm load so plug into the 4ohm jack. For that single 16ohm speaker...you can run that in the 8ohm jack, which will be a mismatch but I dont think there would be any harm to the amp...I also suspect it would be quieter than an identical 8ohm speaker into the 8ohm jack. Hope that helps.

I think the post is confusing to us (jealous) single amp owners.
Can you clarify? I think you have to view the 16 ohm cab as unusable by itself with a Z-28.
I believe you should rewire the 2x10 in series to get 16 ohms and then parallel that with the 16 ohm 12" giving you 8 ohms.

The old rule of thumb that's floated around forever is that you can go one step up or down with reasonable safety. So the story would go that your 8 ohm input would be OK with a 16 ohm cab, and combining your cabs at 8 and 16 gives you 5.33 or something like that which will work with the 4 ohm.
I've done the 1X12 16 Ohm thing myself without a hitch. Tonewise and volumewise, I don't hear much difference between 8 and 16 ohm speakers into the 8 ohm input.
