hi folks and z28 users, i already got a maz18 jr 2x12 version that i really love. now i want to spend a little extra cash for an backup / replacement / bigger stage amp. all i heard and read of the z28 sounds really good, but does it also good country twangs ? soundwise i´m in between brad paisley and redd volkaert (i try so.... ), so it´s clean with a little hair. what is your opinion on the z28 regarding country sounds ? does a 1x12 distorts more than the 2x12 version ? any comment appreciated take care everybody zoppotrump )

The Z28 will certainly do country but not as bright or twangy as a Fender.

I tend to pair mine up with either the 1x12 or 2x10 ;D Does it twang? maybe not exactly like a F-nder .... but then again, it's a Z. Personally, I think you can do just about any style you like with the Z-28 .... course you might not want to do rap, death-metal or Euro-disco .... but that's just my .02 ;D

If you are trying to get a tone like Redd's, I'm not sure if the Z-28 is perfect. Redd has that round, bouncy tweed Twin tone that's killer. The Z-28 will bust up a bit more, but just think of it as *your* sound. I've been taking my Route 66 on some country gigs. Does is sound like a Twin with JBL's? Well, hell no. But I sure dig it! I figure if it can be done with a Route 66, it can DEFINITELY be done with a Z-28. They share some of the same design, but the 28 will have a bit more sparkle (which is what you'll want.) The beauty in the 28 is the similarities to the brown Fenders in the way it breaks up. The brown's are my personal favorite Fenders, and there's no reason to think you can't get some killer clean-ish Tele tones with a Z-28...With of course the added "Z factor." ;D As far as calling it a "bigger stage amp" cmpared to your MAZ 18... Not sure about that one. The headroom and breakup points in the Z-28 and MAZ 18 are pretty similar, so you aren't going to get a huge advantage in headroom. But the tone is different from the MAZ, so it would be a cool alternative. If you are truly needing a "bigger" amp with more headroom, you might want to look more towards the MAZ38, Stingray, or even a used KT-45. Since you've already got a MAZ 18 2 12, I think a really cool A/B setup would be to get a Z-28 head, and an amp head switcher. Sit the Z-28 head on top of your 2 12", and you'd have some really killer options when switching back & forth. You could set the MAZ to get some British clang for certain stuff, then set the Z-28 for a bit more of a Fender sound. ORRR... Vice-versa. Set the MAZ for like a chimey, AC30-type clean and the Z-28 for some grind a la early Marshall/brown Fender. Couldn't go wrong either way! In a similar fashion, I'm looking at possibly getting a head switcher to use my MAZ 38 and Route 66 heads through the same cabinet. Telecaster stuff sounds great, albeit different, through either one... J
