I got my 2x10 combo 2 days ago and it is hands down - the best amp that I have ever played through. In celebration of this monumental amp purchase, I am planning on taking a sledge hammer to my lovely amp modelling pod as I will not be using it ever again. Thank you Doctor Z, One of your newest patients Matt Hegarty

Congrats .....
The combos are small and light enough that you can set them on a 2x12 or 4x12 cab and are also very cool doing that for some things.

I played one for about 15 minutes a couple weeks ago and I CANNOT get it out of my head. I MUST HAVE ONE. I've been busily trying to come up with a scheme that allows me to buy one. I'm really hoping that when my boss said he'd make the recent nightmare project "worth my while" that he was talking in terms of $$$. Coz if he was my Maz Jr is gonna get a playmate.

The MAZ Jr and Carmen Ghia are a fun pair as they are totally different amps and it is fun to mix and match them. A Z-28 with a Carment Ghia is also a match made in heaven in a two amp rig.

Thanks,
Just a bit more.........
Doctor Z prescribed high doses of Carmen Ghia - so I took his advice and here are some results after only a few short days of use.
1. Lower cholesterol and blood pressure - less trips to the frigde for that unhealthy snack -- too busy playing - no time for snacks
2. Saved $ on heat. The tubes burn nice and hot on those cooler days.
3. Saved money on phone bill. Can't talk - besides, I can't hear much other than the Ghia when it's cranked
4. I am just in a good mood all the time. Endorphins are flying
All I have to do now is get a couple of pedals. I think that a reverb is a must and maybe an xotic AC booster. What do you think?
I already have the Engish Muff'n - and it sounds killer w/ the Ghia

Paul,
I guess besides the Ghia, I have a little time for the new iMac (especially if I use it for Dr. Z stuff)
Let's go down to the Guitar Works this week and crank the Ghia.

I use quite a few different sorts of pedals with it, but you should try a Hotcake or Hotcake "Bluesberry" with it, trust me, that pedal has some EL84 mojo like you wouldn't believe... I found out only recently after having this combo for years and years that SRV used a Hotcake. Beefs up the sound in a great way, but you can set it 100% neutral as well. Great kick in the pants for the Ghia. As I use other pedals for grit right now, I switched to a "Bluesberry" version and couldn't be happier. Either Hotcake is awesome for getting an ABB @ Fillmore East type sound with a singing overdrive that is still very "clear," great reproduction and sensitivity. I don't use it for high gain, but it's a great buffer/cleanboost/low-mid gain boost/overdrive.

A friend just got a used Hotcake yesterday and we played today.....nice. I'll have to check out the 'Bluesberry' unit. A Barber Tone Pump with a Ghia is very nice, too........

I have had an AC Boster for about a month now and I can't see a need for any other pedals. Maybe I have a want for them, but I don't need them.
2x10 Ghia + AC Booster = Happy guitarist!
It's simple math
All I want now is either a 1x12 or a 2x12 cab to run in conjunction w/ my 2x10 combo. I know the Zbest 2x12 is awesome, but I am thinking that it will be too much playing aside the 2x10 combo. The Ghia 2x10 is bright(and I like that), but it would be nice to fatten up the sound a bit.
1x12 w/greenback? Any suggestions?

Thank you Doctor Z, One of your newest patients Matt Hegarty Matt ... I think I have read another person or two say what you have said about your Carmen Ghia Don't forget to unplug the internal speakers once in a while and run a speaker cable to a 4x12 Marshall cab and then to a Fender twin Reverb using your amp as a head. In the case of the Fender plug into the 4 ohm tap on the amp. Wow ... THREE totally different amps! And that is just the tip of the iceburg. Happy playing!

I plugged my Ghia 1x12 combo into my Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks. It sounded ok... I was more impressed with it plugged into the Z-Best. But overall I really dig the vintage 30.

It's been said many times before, "tone is in the ears of the beholder". I used play my ghia through a Z open back 2x12 loaded with greenbacks. It sounded huge and was 'the bomb' for cranked output overdriven tones with tons of harmonic overtones. I wasn't looking for pristine clean tones so I don't recall what that spectrum sounded like. Tele62 now has the cab and might be able to chime in.
