I recently got a Mini and love it! I want to get a Carmen Ghia and would just like a few comments on which Ghia any of you prefer. 1x12 combo, 2x10 combo or the head? Without any imput from this board, I personally would go for the 2x10 combo; assuming that the 2 -10"s are tighter than the 12".

A head is great if you like experimenting with different speakers or you already have a decent cabinet. I personally like 2 x 10 combos or cabs. If you're not the tweaking type the 2 x 10s spread the sound out a bit more than a single 12" IMO.

A head gives you cabbage choices, and @ 20 pounds, it's a cake walk.

I have a buddy who had a Ghia head, and was thinking about selling it to go to a Mazerati or something with more power. I suggested that, since he had stereo effects on his board anyway, he get a second Ghia head and go stereo into a Z-Best 2x12 wired with one input per speaker. The result? Downright scary. He can run one head for smaller gigs and both for others (although he generally runs 'em both anyway) and the sound is amazing. I guess my first answer is like those above: a head gives you some great options... that said, a grab and go Ghia combo sure makes sense too... There, I knew I would be no help at all... Here's a pic of my buddy's rig:

Normally I would say head/ cab hands down... but I also REALLY like my Ghia 2x10 combo... very nice and I prefer 12" speakers but that a great cab, small and light weight.
One suggestion... I put the WEBER BEAM BLOCKERS in my 2x10 combo and WOW!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them... keeps it from cutting your head off, disperses the sound well
and with the beam blockers you can then tilt it back to angle it away from the audience and at your head to better moniter/ hear yourself... without killing YOUR ears.
I would love a 2nd GHIA head to carry as a back-up to my bigger amps and/ or to run with the combo in a 2 ghia set-up... would sound BIG and sweet!

I just received my 10" beam blockers Friday. Now I'm waiting for the cab to come in with my Stang Ray head.

I've done a complete 180 in the last few years on combos vs heads. I sold all my combos and now only have heads. There lighter, easer to transport and match up better with deferent cabs for deferent situations. I also live about 120 miles from the closest Z dealer and they don't seem to be to knowledgeable about any kind of repair on these amps. When and if I ever need to have any serious work done on one of my amps it will be easer to ship a head back to Z for the work rather than a big combo. What ever you chose you really can't go wrong.

definitely cab and head for me- i have a head and 2x12 greenback- open back sound is super juicy and unbelievably fat i'm building an open back weber bluedog 1x12
whatever you do you can't go wrong- consider getting a gig bag for the head- see threads about the gator double kick pedal bag

I would go for the head & then you can run it with a 1x12 for small gigs and a Z best 4x10 for bigger gigs. You have not experience a Ghia until you hear it through a Z best 4x10 !!!
