hey this is my first post on this cause i dont own my z yet....im really into the z-28 though, and im gonna go get one next week, my only dilema is that the store im goin to only has the 2-10 combo......thats cool but i really wanted the head....i was actually interested in the 2-10's with the head, so my question for y'all is, is there a difference between a 2-10 combo and a head on top of a 2-10 cab.......or what about the 2-12 or 1-12?.....id love to hear all your thoughts......oh by the way, im getting it to play some medium sized clubs and a few outdoor festivals this summer

I would go with a head version. You can use it with any cab you want and if you go to jam with someone & they have a cab available you wont need to carry as much.

I've owned the Maz Jr, Sr, Ghia...and the Z28 is my favorite so far ;D I have a head and use different cabs depending on the gig. Mostly I get by with a 1x12.
Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a good 2x10 combo, in fact I may end up owning one. A die hard Fender friend of mine who's gigged steadily for 25 years just got one and has never been happier...it's goodbye Fender for him.
The 2x10 sounds bigger than you might think, has a very strong bottom, and gives it up much quicker than the Maz Sr... if that's what you're looking for. It's also a very pedal friendly amp, works great with a boost or OD. Stick a trustworthy and quiet Dario Miniwatt EF 86 in there and you're good to go.

I have owned 3 Z amps...a Giha, a Maz JR Non Reverb and a Z-28 Head with a 1-12 cab..The Giah was very cool..the Maz was a bit noisy and the bass control was either on or off..no graduation..but for my tastes having grown up with Deluxe amps..I love the Z-28 with the 6V6 tubes..sweet 3 dimensional tone..I also have recently put one of the new English made G12H speakers in the cab,,replacing the Chinese Celestion Vintage 30..way better sound..less harsh..This is a very quiet rig that has a great blues tone..

My first Z28 was a 2x10. It is a HUGE sounding cab.
I traded the combo for a head to use witth my 2x12, but in hindsight I like the 2x10 better. If I buy a Z28 in the future it will be a 2x10 combo.
I did a side by side comparison of my Z28 with a Victoria Double Deluxe and they sounded almost exactly the same when cranked. Beautiful
Still think the Route 66 is the best tho ;D

I really like the KT45 clip too, but I can only imagine how loud that thing was to get those tones. Everyone I know who has a KT45 says it is loud and clean.

I just recently purchased a 1x12 Z28 with a Greenback in it- it sounds fantastic. Loads of tight bass- a lot more than any other 1x12's I've owned and I've owned a few. I did own a RT.66 but tired of carrying the head and 2x12 cab. The Z28 has the really cool grind at a more acceptable level, accepts pedals very well, and is a whole lot easier to lug around. You should check one out if you can.

I've spoke to the Dr. about this in great detail. I was once debating on putting my Z-28 into a combo cab but he talked me out of it. Based on the high sensitivity of the EF-86 having the head/cab combo would give longer tube life. Just something to consider, there is a lot of air being moved around in those combo cabs.
And now since I have a Ghia 2x10 combo I can lug out the Ghia combo and the Z-28 head...just set the Z-28 on top of the Ghia and plug in to either amp of my choice!!
