Can anyone compare these two amps for me?
I've played the SRZ-65 and really liked it, but I've never been able to try a Roccaforte.
Are they in the same tonal ballpark?

Nope .... they are very different amps. Doug's 80 is one of my favorite amps. I prefer it over his high gain 100 watter personally but that is just my personal taste.

Is the Custom 40 the same amp as the Custom 80 but with only 2 EL34s in the Power Amp section? Are they voiced similarly?
When you say its a different animal than the SRZ-65, is it because the latter is more of a JCM800 sound vs. the Roccaforte's Plexi?
Thanks for your comments.

Talk to Doug Roccaforte ... he will help a lot.

Do you have a preference between the 40/80?
After hearing the clips online, I think I preferred the 80.

It is like taking a test drive in a new car by standing on the curb watching it drive by. You don't know how it was recorded and the material is rarely the same on amps you are comparing. Plus you miss one of the great aspects of a great amp ... user interaction. That is one of the main factors that makes a great amp great and others just wanna bees.

I absolutely agree... its just that getting a hold of one roccaforte, let alone two of them, can be difficult in Seattle.
With a lot of boutique amps (like my KT-45) its a leap of faith. You like the sound of some musician who plays them, you read the reviews, you check boards, and then you commit $1000+ on an amp you might never have heard.
Emerald City Guitar has some great amps (Orange, Z, /13, etc... but I don't think he's got any Roccafortes.
