I managed to snap a photo of my SRZ & my Z 4x10 cab. This combination sounds huge. I'm never going back to 12's! Enjoy! Wow...what a great tidy Rig!! I have the Klon and Korg Dt10 tuner as well...I love the korg tuner! Oh ...I also have a Z 4x10...best 4x10 out there IMO

Thanks. I use the Klon mostly as a lead boost. I'll leave the Klon turned on during the whole set when we play smaller rooms to help me get a fuller sound & use my guitars volume pot to go from rhythm to lead tone. The Korg DT-10 is one of the best tuners I have ever used. I had a Strobostomp but I just couldn't seem to get it to work. As for the Z 4x10... it's in a class by itself.

I read somewhere that the DT10 is true bypass???
Looks like your board is setup to bypass the klon & Tuner when off??

Yes, thats exactly how my board is set up. I just took a look at the DT-10 manual & I don't see any mention of it being "True Bypass". There is a "Bypass" output but that just allows the guitar signal to pass through the tuner even when it is engaged. As for the Klon, I really didn't want it to be located in the front row of the board. I wanted to allow some space for one more pedal up front so I put the Klon in back & hooked it into the Keeley Looper. Since I have two Keeley Loopers I wanted to make use of both rather than have one sitting around collecting dust.

I managed to snap a photo of my SRZ & my Z 4x10 cab. This combination sounds huge. I'm never going back to 12's! Enjoy! Prowler, you get karma from me - your pic reminded me I have an old Rivera 4x10 here and I tried it out with my 6545 and it works great! In fact, it's the 4x10 on the sound clip I posted today - who would have thought you could get those kinds of tones from a 4x10? :)Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the Karma & I'm glad the 4x10 worked out for you. 4x10 cabs truly are amazing!

Prowler. I must ask, is the four ten Z cabinet you have open or closed back ? How about the Rivera, Benttop?
You guys have got me curious now. I've got a brown '60 Fender Concert 4-10 cabinet loaded with re-issue Jensens that I've never tried with my SRZ-65RH. I'd have to re-wire it for 8 ohm series-parallel, but if either of yours is open back and sounds good, I might be up to the task! [ That's probably one of the only combinations I HAVEN'T tried. ]
If it works out, I'd have to set the cabinet on top of the head - that'd be different..

That's about how the Rivera cab is too. When I got that cab, it had some tens that sounded like poo. So I ordered a set of Fender replacement speakers for the Blues DeVille (I had a Blues DeVille and liked the speakers) and put those in there. They are real low watt speakers - like 15 watts each. But they sound great!

Thanks guys.
Looks like I'll be breaking out the soldering iron this weekend. I've got 2 alnicos and 2 ceramics in the Concert cab, which is more open in the back than either of yours [ the stock lower panel is even "vented" with 2 oblong openings covered with grille cloth ]. I can always "adjust" the back wave by putting it closer or farther from a wall, I guess.

Go for it. You'll be amazed at the tone your SRZ has through a 4x10.

I'm on the list for the limitted run of new SRZs, and from the get go I was thinking about a 4X10 to go with it. What speakers or speaker combos do you suggest (Zs, webers, alnico/ceramic, other?)? Does Z make his speakers w/ ceramic or alnico mags?

After lots of testing I ended up with a Weber Silver Bell. That speaker really "speaks" to me. Ya know??

What exactly are the tonal properties of that speaker that you liked about the Silver Bell?

The Silver Bell breaks up really nicely with the SRZ. It sort of sounds like a good old broken in Greenback to my ears. Of all the 12's that I've tried over the years the Silver Bell has the most balanced tone in my opinion. The lows are tight, mids are present without being overbearing & the highs are smooth without being piercing. As always tone is subjective at best so your ear will hear things differently.

Hey Prowler.. If you don't mind, when you get a chance could you post a close up pic of the front and especially the BACK of your srz 65.... I'm also contimplating getting one of theose limited run ones... If I can swing it... I'm also trying to get a 2nd stingray sooo??? Does yours have an effects loop... did ANY of them have one?? I could run it through the front so it's really not a problem but I was wondering.... ALSO... does it get the great tone at low volumes like the MAZ SR/JR amps... I would assume it does.... super GAS! AND I've been wanting a 4x10 Z cab so this just further enhances the ZGAS! BTW... I like the SILVERBELL... it sounds more MARSHALL to me as the BLUEDOG sounds more VOXish..... Thanks Prowler

The front of the SRZ goes like this...
-Prescense-Bass-Middle-Treble-Volume-Gain
The back has 16, 8 & 4 ohm outputs as well as an outlet. 3 12ax7 preamp tubes 2 power tubes & the rectifier tube.

Do you think the Silver Ten would do well in a 4x10 cab? Actually, I was thinking about a 3x10, like in the old Super Zs. I want good speaker breakup, loud enough to compete with my 2x12 Celestions w/ my 45, but able to still get great distorted tone at lower volumes (basically the volumes I am forced to gig at).
Any idea what wattage and ohmage I should use with a SRZ? (options are 20 or 30 watts, 8 or 16 ohms)

If you are going with a 4x10 cab I would use 16ohm 20 watt Silver Bells & wire them in parallel. That will give you a cab that can handle around 80 watts & should do just fine with the SRZ.

Prowler, you must have changed the picture at the www.darides.com/images/rig.jpg and not given the Bad Cat setup a different name/link. Anyway, it does make for some interesting reading...

Plug the open back Z 4x10 into a MAZ Sr and put that rig next to a BF Fender Super Reverb ... play with the MAZ controls a bit and voila .... how does the Doc make an amp with EL84s and cathode biasing that can nail the Fender Super Reverb vibe and tone but even louder?
