I currently use an Avatar 212 with my Route 66. Speakers are a G12H30 and a Weber Blue 30W.
How different is the Z Best cab from what I currently use?
I'm imagining it is louder with more bass for starters. I read on Z's web site about changing the sound of the Z Best by going vertical or horizontal. I do this with my Avatar, but mostly its because of space issues and I haven't paid attention to any sonic difference.
Do any of you use multiple cab setups to vary your Route 66 experience?

I have a stock Z-Best which matches my 66. I absolutely love it. It's an awesome cab. I also have an Ulbrick 1-12 closeback with a custom made Celestian Heritage speaker called a V-35. It's basically a tamed Vintage 30 so it sounds like a greenback but with a tighter bottom end. I bought this cab/speaker as the speaker is about 96/97db so it's inefficient and at 35 watts doesn't have alot of headroom, so it's my small club rig or crank up the 66 without it being overly loud. It works very well and sounds big and warm. Being inefficient it's not the brightest speaker and lacks a little presence with the 66 but I like it and it's very light and portable. I have a feeling this speaker/cab would sound spectacular with a RXES or GT. I'm thinking another 1-12 open back with a gold will be my next acquisition just for something different again. I'd love a decent quad too but I sold my old one 20 years ago

I mostly use an open back 210 with Weber alnico 10's, a Z convertible cab with a 30 watt Red Fang or an open back 212 with Weber Silver and Blue. I have played it through the Z best and Z open back 212 with blues.
The 210 is tight sounding but with less bass, significantly less volume and breaks up early in a very nice way.
The 112 is bright and loud but has the least bass response.
The openback 212's are nice and balanced, bright, more volume and lots of bass (even with blues) more headroom than either of the smaller cabs.
The Z best is different again, best bass response, very aggressive mids, much more directional than the 212. Volume wise it seems less loud to me than the open 212 (but I rarely stand in front of it), but projects a bit better.

My avatar cab originally came with the G12H30 and a Vintage30. I did not like the V30 at all,,,but I'm realizing now it was the combination of open cab and the mid-heavy Rt66. The 212 just seemed to honk when I played through it. The Weber Blue 30W is a wonderful balance to the sound and breaks up nicely.
I would like to try the Z Best and see how the V30 sounds in that arrangement. I think the bass response of that ported cab is the balance I was missing before.

The bass response of the Z-Best definitely makes up for the potential brightness of the V30.
