I'm considering a mini as an A/B partner for my blackface vibrochamp (home and studio playing)
Would have to unload eight or nine pedals to do it, but I'm slowly gravitating towards less pedals anyway.
should I do it?

Hey, if you are moving away from pedals anyway, why not!

I'd sell everything but keep a treble booster pedal if you have one. NICE through the Mini.

I've taken stock of my pedals (19!) and have slated nearly half of them for the auction block. I'm gonna post in the b&s section here for a week or so first. Fulltone: FD2, distortionPro, Fat Boost, BassDrive Hermida Zendrive Line 6 DL-4 Boss: TU-2, PH-2 phaser

The FDII sounds exceptional with the Mini if you're running a head and a nice high efficiency speaker. And a 12AU7. So does the RTO. So does the Flying Dragon boost.
I'd set the FDII aside and fiddle a little with it and some lower gain preamp tubes. My AU7 gives nice crunch when dimed, and then the FDII gooses it nicely. I find the 12AX7 in the Mini just too d@mn fizzy, and it doesn't sing at all. Then again, just my taste.

Never thought of putting a 12AU7 in there. Just did. That's nice. Thanks for the good idea.

Never thought of putting a 12AU7 in there. Just did. That's nice. Thanks for the good idea. It gives you a little more clean room to maneuver, but when you dime it and hit the guitar hard you still get a real nice breakup. Got the idea in here myself not too long ago. ANYWAY, the main point may be... swap that tube and then diddle some with the Fulldrive before you sell it. The Fulldrive can punch that puppy for some very useful singing lead tones.
