Dear _____, I am seriously looking into purchasing a Dr. Z Amp, and my friend who plays through a Route 66 suggested I go with that, but I wanted to ask the forum and get some opinions on what would be the best for me! I play in an Indie Rock/Power Pop band. So I desire a nice good crunch with my distortion but also just an overall versatile amp with a good tone. So is the Route 66 the right fit for me, or is there another Dr. Z product that would best suit me? Any and all opinions will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!

What a can of worms you opened up ;D The best suggestion I could offer is to try an go somewhere and play a few. There is no bad Z period, and the tones you seek could come from an number of his amps. Pedals come big into play, which ones you use if any. I would go to the sounds section and listen, Z has clips on his site as well. Benttop has a ton of great clips. Here is another link to a bunch of clips, don't play with basic sound card or speakers though, nuances are lost. Good luck with your hunt and welcome. www.proguitar.de/AudioDemo/mp3/Amp-CD/Dr.Z.Amps/

Unless your prepared to eventually owning several Dr. Z's don't even start, it's a sickness I tell ya ! ;D
Seriously there are a lot of good sound clips on this site to give you an idea but you've really got to play them because a lot of the magic is in the feel of the amp and how it responds to your playing. Start saving!

Route 66 is an amazing amp but it has very specific tone and one either likes it or not. It is not a swiss-army knife of amps but with some wise pedal choices it can be very versatile. It has an amazing "base" tone ... thick, crunchy with just the right amount of natural compression and saturation. It does not have much "clean" headroom and if you're looking for some sparkly and chimey Fender cleans, you will be disappointed. If you list some bands or guitar players you like, it would be easier to try and guess if you'd like the amp.

Hi there Myhiddentrack, I am an Indie rock/powerpop arteeeest (hack) as well. I recorded an album three years ago but have yet to release it for various reasons but it is all Route 66 with only boosts and a few other things (wha or octavia) used for solo's. All rythum parts are straight in (oh, there is some deja-vibe there too) and there is a good variation of clean to all out crunch. Should give you a bit of an idea anyway! drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=soundfiles&action=display&thread=1135038050

I can only second "tas" link here - he has lots of great sounds and interesting music as well, made with "only" the Route. Their music reminds me of a kind of modern crossover between "The Free" & "The Police" with their own vibe going on. (great band) Remember - crunch for lunch - easy as pie. ;D BTW: Did I mention that that the Rout66 takes pedals extremely well. I bought my first ever OD-pedal after I got my "Route in october last year. Until now all such gizmos sounded like crap to me. Cheers: Dixiechicken!

Thank you to everyone!
I think I am going to go with the Route 66.
Now the hard part begins....saving up the money!
Does anyone know any stores that sell Dr. Z's that you can pay it off in payments or anything?
