This is a black tolex and tan grillcloth N (2003?) series. Matches my Z-Best, oddly enough. Would it cover significantly different territory than the SRZ? Is it it's own scene entirely? I've got an Airbrake in the house, and that little box changes what my amps can do, by adding to available flavors.

hey zimmer the 66 is a whole different beast. it definitely has its own thing goin on. everyone says bluesbreaker, jtm 45, which i kinda get, but like all z's def has its own vibe. to me when clean, has a big fender sound with some nice chime on top, but when its pushed goes into the best power amp grind (marshall territory) but is so touch sensitive. best dynamics i've ever experienced in an amp. in fact now i understand what it means to "play an amp" takes pedals so well. it is so versatile. with the right pedals can cover so many styles. for me the airbrake is a must with this amp, not just for volume(its loud! with a huge low end) but, like i said on another thread, that having the airbrake is like unlocking a second super-versatile amp.
as you can see, i dig my 66. it was my first Z, and after 8 months, i'm still discovering cool tones. i think you can't go wrong. good luck! ;D

by the way, that is a cool looking 66. mine is also a 2003, in blond. if that one is a 2003, it should have a 15 yr anniversary tag on the back. if i'm not mistaken. (mine does) anyway, if you havent already...get it!

Yeah, it's got white knobs rather than the metal ones that alot of them have. The fellow said it belonged to someone here on the forum, possibly named Steve. It is a 2003 and has the 15th anniversary sticker.
In the need versus want spectrum, this is much more of a want type of purchase.
Any pitfalls? Check the bias, etc?

DC here!
It's a tube amp after all ;D - a set of spare tubes never go amiss.
Mine came brand new with matched set of Groove Tubes KT66C#6 Nos Dario Miniwat EF86, a JJ GZ34/5AR4 rectifier tube. Plus a Sovtek 12AX7/LPS PI-tube.
Cheers: Dixiechicken!

All right. It's due for shipping tomorrow.
Got a spare rectifier, don't have any EF86s, or KT66s. It was apparently biased with a new set of KT66s this year.

Thanks DC.
It's the one I had been thinking about when did buy my first Z. I was ready to pull the trigger, but then bought the SRZ, instead. No regrets, there.
All the best to you as well!

This is some good news.
The fellow who's selling it tells me it's a great sounding amp, too. He's on a quest for a two channel amp, and asked me a couple of questions about the Galaxie.
fireball, it's cool that your old 66 is back in the family, so to speak.

Yeah, that 66 is one amp that I've really missed. I used to run it into a closed back over-sized 2x12 with Greenbacks and it was a great sound! I'm seriously contemplating buying another one! ;D Congrats again! This is some good news. The fellow who's selling it tells me it's a great sounding amp, too. I'm a big fan of my amp, this year I plaied mostly acoustic, but on sept came a call by a blues band I'm joinin' now. They're all surprized by my amp and the way it makes me play, after few me/my/room/my amp mounths I fell in love with it again!

Okay, I was excited about the amp headed my way.
Now that it's here, I'm stumped for words. It's easy to say that it is different than the SRZ and the Galaxie, however. There's something going on between the Z-Best and the Route 66 that wasn't quite there with the other two, in terms of balance. The Route has very interesting cleans... And there's a liveliness, a bounce, where the amp is its own instrument.
Ever had a great glass of fresh spring water, chilled to near freezing, that is more refreshing and tasty than room temperature city water? It is very quenching, and satisfying in a rare way.

Congrats on the 66. I struggled with the decision. At first it was a Prescription ES, then a Maz Jr., then a Ghia but I listened to the 66 and it knocked me out right away. Only have had mine (blonde) for a few weeks. But it's easily the best amp I've owned. - Marty
