Has anyone tried using any kind of tube preamps with the Route 66 such as the Chandler Tube Driver by B.K. Butler like Eric Johnson uses for the violin sustain & David Gilmour or the Electro Harmonix English Muff'n?
I love the purity of tone the 66 has to be able to shape the sound with pedals like the fuzz, overdrives, boost etc. but sometimes it seems like an extra preamp stage would be nice for a more natural crunch, though I'm not sure if those are more geared to recording or using with an amp. Anybody try something like this yet?

No I have not - but if ordinary OD-pedals sound good with the Route - no reason why a tube-preamp gizmo wouldn't. Cheers: Dixiechicken!

An old Chandler sounds amazing. A friend of mine has an original. I keep an eye open for one...

I got a hold of a Electro Harmonix English Muff'n tube overdrive and sounds fake. Back to just a nice clean boost! Thanks!

Hmm too bad - or maybe good? You saved some bucks! There are a number tube od-pedals on the market though, so maybe all hope isn't lost. As usual YMMV I guess. Cheers: Dixiechicken!
