I was getting a bit of odd distortion on low notes and hum, so I checked the bias with the Bias Rite (GT KT66HP's #6, about 25-30 hours on them) and it come up as 36mA on the left and 24 mA on the right...oddly the tubes were a bit off when I put them in (i think 36 and 34) but one has drifted WAY off.
Replaced them with a fresh pair and everything sounds fine (biased up nicely at 34.4/34).
Anyone had this experience?
Interestingly, the amp sounded very cool with the unmatched tubes-very thick and bluesy.

I have not had a tube go bad so quickly but I know it does happen. You might want to check with your supplier for a refund. It doesn't sound like they were in for very long.

It happens, if they are GT they'll replace them under warranty I believe.

It happens, if they are GT they'll replace them under warranty I believe. Unfortunately they're way past the warranty. I bought them about 3 years ago, when the HP's were the standard tube in the 66. I'm down to my last two pairs, I hope I have better luck with these ones.
