The Fat Boost works great with the 66, especially in the bridge position. I don't think the RC is a must but it is another nice addition to the palette of tones you can use. The treble and bass controls are very nice and can custom taylor your sound if you so desire.

The Fatboost is all you need. It sounds great with the 66.

I agree 100% with the previous posters. I loved my FatBoost when I had a 66. Take a great pedal and great amp and there's only one possible outcome there can be!!!
The RC Booster is really good - very transparent and a really good kick in the a**. Also, I recently bought a Fulltone GT500. Along with a great drive, the boost side of the pedal is spectacular. It may be the best boost I have had yet - it's that good. You really can't go wrong with a pedal that offers two outstanding options in one neatly layout format.

Lefty I agree the Fat Boost is it! I took back my new Fat Boost for the new GT-500 when I heard the same day I bought it that it was discontinued. I know the Boost side of the GT-500 is supposed ot have twice as many FET (Field effect transistors) but I still think the Fat Boost sounded better. More hollwed out lower mids and a nice singing transparent sustain. That and the OCD is a knockout combo but lately my favorite is just the fulltone '69 on all the time. Sweet rock tones with the volume down some and searing solos when cranked. Worked from Jimi!

Boosts are so subjective, as everything has an effect on what you're boosting, ie guitar, pick-ups, speakers, cabs, etc. For me, running an inefficient 1-12 kinda rolls off alot of presence, top end and mid punch. The Fatboost sounds great with the Route 66 but I much prefer the boost side of the GT-500 and I've heard enough of the RC pedal with other Z amps to know that would sound great with the 66 as well, adding that presence. I think the fatboost adds...fat! It's a thick sounding boost which I think works better with bright amps or EL84 amps. It's a little darker than the other two to my ears. The GT-500 boost side has a GREAT crunch with the 66 and brings back some of the presence and sparkle and defenition that running through an inefficient speaker loses. I agree with Bilbal, it's pretty spectacular. Nothing wrong with the ol' fatboost though, I used it for 3 years quite happily and if it's all I could use it really wouldn't bother me.

DC here!
Just about any good OD-pedal will work fine with the Route one way or the other.
With my "Carl Martin Hot Drive n' Boost MK3" bothe the OD part and the clean boost work very well.
The boost side is very clean (just volume) it tends to enhance the aggressiveness that "in your face" character of the Route66.
With the Hot Drive part you get ( at least I use it so ) a more chrunchy warmer charachter to the sound. With the Wave-gizmo-control - you affect wich mid-frequencies get pronounced in the "Hot Drive" signal.

I use both the RC Booster and a Fat Boost. I use the RC near the front of my chain for single coil guitars. I use the Fat Boost at the very end of the chain(into the amp). I kick it on for solos only. Never trust the sound guy to get your solo.

+1 for the AC Booster but I also love the Beano Boost with the Route 66.
