I picked up an old Rat 2 a week ago and kinda dig it with the Rt66. My only gripe is the bass loss....but that's any OD/Dist isn't it? I haven't gotten to use it in a band context yet unfortunately. Anyone else trying the Rat? If so what settings are you using and how do you deal with the bass loss? Luke

I have a Keeley modded Rat, he adds a 3 position mini switch one of the positions adds more gain with increased bottom end. Check out www.robertkeeley.com

I had the Keeley Rat and it really rocks. It's a kind of sound you appreciate when you play wiyh a band, because its medium-compressed voice cuts really through. To me a little dirty.

I hate to drill up an old Rat......I found a page that said I could get some of the bass back by replacing the input and output caps, I might try that before my next practice.
Cascading my Cold Fusion into the Rat makes for some great lead tones.

I've got a couple of rats...love 'em. Gain is around 11 o'clock, filter 9-1, volume 1.

I mainly use it for solos...don't miss the bass much with a band.

I wonder how close it is to a Keeley modded Rat? We got an instrumental recorded this weekend that is on our new myspace page. The song still hasn't posted yet, but it was: LP-->Banzai Cold Fusion-->Rat-->EH Small Stone-->EH Deluxe Memory Man. The Small stone was not used on the recording. Hopefully it will be up soon and you guys can hear it. Luke

The Keely mod probably is worthwhile. I applied a similar Keely mod to my TS808 clone, and it restored the bass really nicely. But mine was a clone, so I wasn't messing with a valuable pedal. I'd say build a Rat clone and apply the Keely mod to it.

I have an early 80's RAT that was modded by Robert Keeley..I think it's probably a 2nd generation since it had the red LED factory installed...It's about the only dirt pedal I use anymore...LUV it!!!...I usually run mine..Dist-8/9:00(barely on)..Filter-2/3:00..Vol-1:30/2:00...Real nice blusey compression with a little hair.... And with the 3-way switch, it can double as a clean boost, but I normally use another clean boost pedal behind it to kick it up a notch..I used it for a decade and a half before I got the mod done...At $65 (return shipping included), I think it's money well spent..
